Anyone had success ordering live crawfish and had it delivered a few states away? In this instance, about a 13 hour drive. Do you get a bunch of dead crawfish?

I have done it. Very minimal loss. No more than usual.

Used cajuncrawfish.com to ship up to DC. They send up on the last plane at night and get to your door in the morning coolpacked with a wet burlap sack. 99% alive and kicking.

I've had it shipped out to California with no issues. Maybe 1% loss?...Probably less that that. The company I used was out of Mammou. Louisiana Crawfish Co I think.

I've used La Crawfish Company before and thought they did a great job. We didn't lose anymore than normal.

I used the same company to ship them to Minnesota. Lost maybe 5 or so.

The Rose City (Portland) Tigers do it every may. No issues really.

No but...

I've toted some bugs a long way in the bed of a truck sitting on top of ice and covered with a wet burlap sack. I rotated the crawfish every couple of hours during the drive. No more loss than if I bought them a day ahead of time and had to ice them.

I've used LA Crawfish and Cajun Crawfish, both were pretty much the same when it came to dead ones. You have a bit more dead ones than getting it local, but surprisingly not a lot more. I'd used either of those two again depending on price.

Done it twice with LA Crawfish. 1st time worked out great and not much dead loss. 2nd time FedEx screwed it up and they got "lost" somewhere at their Memphis airport facility. LA Crawfish tracked it and refunded me every penny. They were great to work with and would order again.

My friend does it every year to Southern California. It ain't cheap, but they get there pretty much as alive as they'd be if you bought some crawfish today to boil tomorrow. They're chilled and packed similar to how you'd keep the bugs alive until tomorrow.

We have a family member that did this in Chicago and said that they were in very good shape.

We have brought them into Texas an bunch of times but it was a very short trip.

It's not real bad, definitely a lot cheaper than driving there and back. If you shop around, you can find some decent prices.

Next time I fly I'm going to carry on a crawfish sack and say they are my service animal.
