Learned a valuable lesson about overdoing it alchohol wise one night recently and the importance of staying both hydrated with water and especially electrolytes. I had a pretty scary heart palpitation with lightheadedness which was triggered by being a little dehydrated. I made the mistake of waking up the next morning after tying one on and having a couple of diet cokes with lunch and that triggered the palpitation and near fainting spell. Got checked out by a cardiologist as a precaution and everything checked out fine. I now hydrate heavily with Gatorade for the many hours after even low to moderate drinking to keep the electrolytes high. $1 lemon lime Gatorades at Dollar General.

I choose powerade since now you have to have a degree in astrophysics to use gatorade. Three steps with different options in each tier depending on whether you are fueling, replacing during, or replacing after.

There is something about gatorade over ice after a long run in 90 deg, 90% humidity weather.
And the lemon/lime gatorade when sick.
Powerade may taste better but gatorade is like Tabasco. Just goes well with a few things.

Gatorade ... so complicated. One time I drank perform when I was priming; it was a complete disaster.
