And he never changed his fish fwiw. Fish was way too thick to be tilapia and not like mahi is so much more expensive.

It was tilapia last time I ate there.

Well I'm not going to argue with y'all about what kind of fish was served, but I doubt it was tilapia.

margins are soooo low in the donut biz .. you have to turn merchandise .. jay needs to be in a more mainstream area where he has unimpeded walk in business ... i don't know why dingo's would move there .. he is drastically downsizing his physical plant .. because the old abe's MIGHT be 1/5 the size of his old place with the side porch included .. plus, the old dude that owned the old abe's wants an unrealistic arm and a leg for that piece of real estate .. i know three other places that tried to buy it, but the stubborn old fart wouldn't budge off of his price ...

abe's did well because they had bands on friday and saturday nights on the side porch and they had good food .. no one else could maintain there ... that is a difficult turn in and an even more difficult turn out for cars too ...

zombie, i sure hope this isn't the "bigger things in BR" that you are talking about for him ... because this isn't ..

So there is no difference between relocating and shutting down.
didnt read the whole thing. my bad. im not chummy with the owner. i will say the food was decent ( i would have tweaked things with everything i ate except the salad). you can tell its a fresh kitchen. nothings pre-packaged which goes a long way imo.

however, when the manager tells me to come watch nfl games there, and i bring someone to watch a saints game... and they are trying to close and turn all the lights off before half time, im not exactly feeling like they are trying to encourage people to make dingo's their spot to watch the game. too bad. i have some lush friends and they would have made some money.

then, zombie, he's breaking his lease .. that is not a good sign ... i could understand the "bigger things" assertion if he was there 3 years and his lease was expiring .. but:

a. he is leaving before the terms of his lease expire

b. he can't sustain a restaurant business on the third busiest street in BR with a daily traffic count of 50,000 cars ...

The point is that he downgraded his fish from mahi to a lower cost fish. This, combined with the revolving door of servers, breaking the lease, burning cash, and a strange, yet intriguing theme, leads us to concur that, as rag said, he is feeding you a load of crap.

I think he could run a great bar.

And fwiw, I haven't spoken to the owner of Dingo's in a while. I heard about everything through a friend. I really don't know any specifics, only that he wasn't shutting down for good.

As far as Brandon's, I ate there one day and the next they were closed. All I could say was WTF! And
I even spoke with Brandon and he was all excited about the place. Total mind frick on that one

Agree.

I knew things couldn't have been good for him when he started promoting a children's night.

zombie, this is not intended to impugn you at all, bro ... i believe you 100% that these are things this guy told you .. like i said, he seems like a nice dude .. but the guy that owned the end zone was a nice dude too ...

i am just pointing out the inconsistencies in what he told you, much like what the dude at brandon's told you .. i don't expect any of them to tell you "man, i am out of money, i have to shut it down" .. i feel for the guy .. i never want to see any biz in BR fail .. but i think we are starting to see the dominos tumble in the restaurant biz and it is far from over ..

yeah .. whenever places start offering to feed kids for free multiple nights of the week, that is an early sign a lot of times ..

i just don't think jay's would make it in the old abe's spot, will ... just not an easy in and out ... he needs to be mainstream with lots of warm bodies walking in ... fwiw, last i heard he was still in negotiations for the old starbucks spot on coursey near the wal mart neighborhood market ..
