Going to a restaurant and not saying a word about a "piss-poor" waiter
That's where you're wrong. I've never had a piss-poor waiter but once in my life.
The complainers are people who complain at decent waiters who make a simple mistake.

You blow up on your friends when they're not satisfied with the waiter, yet you won't say a word to the waiter when the service is subpar?
Never had subpar service. The most I've ever had to do was ask for a refill. I'm sorry but I'm not flipping out on my waiter for having to ask for a refill.
Then again, when you are enjoying your company and being a pleasant person, you will find you don't run into bad service because you aren't looking for it to happen.

i disagree about the level of service at the bar .. we eat at the bar 95% of the time because it is the total opposite .. you get far better service at the bar than you do on the floor .. the bartender is generally an older, former wait person themselves and they genuinely appreciate decent tips ... most people sit at the bar to drink and eat because of the service they generally get at a bar .. if i get some little shite that is ignorant and oblivious to the customers around them behind a bar, i am surprised ...
and i was both a wait person and a bartender ... you can't sit on your arse and visit behind the bar or it will swallow you whole ..
I agree with this. I rather sit at the bar and eat/drink. The service feels more personal because the bartender is always right there in front of you.
I think that in the OP, the service was horrendous, no doubt. But I think the OP was being a douchebag about it all and probably added some extra "details" into the story.

Agree. I never once said the bad service was okay. It's not okay.. ever.
But like I said above, when you're a decent friendly person, you get good service. I go out of my way to be as kind as possible to waitstaff and because of it, I have only had bad service once in my life. If you are short with people and rude, you might find you get worse service.
Waitstaff should give EVERYONE awesome service but we don't live in an ideal world.

Beggin your pardon Queen LL, but the manager was working the drive thru that night. Dude was every bit of 27, and caucasian,
Where's my aplology....
Bump for apology. And I would have never cussed a 16 year old girl. A 27 year caucasiun manager, yes.

i wouldn't doubt it .. usually you will get someone with bad service on here that embellishes to look like the "hero" in the story .. if he really did tell the bartender "beer" .. then he's fanning the flames and setting himself up for bad service the rest of the way .. but, the bartender has to be the bigger person in this instance .. it is his or her job to do that ... a lot of times, turning a bad experience into a good one with a shaky customer can be profitable ..

Ok "my entire life" might not be a super long time, but I think it says something that I eat out 5+ times a week and have only received bad service once and it was out of state.
I don't think it takes a rocket scientist to know that you do unto others as you'd like done to you. If you treat your server like they are there to worship you, you're not going to get awesome service. And if you spend your dinner focusing on what your waiter is doing wrong, you're ruining the entire reason to be out at dinner with a date.
I remember someone once told me their dad puts a certain amount of money on the table in 1's at the beginning of dinner. And each time the waiter does something wrong, he takes a dollar away. (and does all this with the waiter knowing)
I would be beyond offended if I was dining with someone and they spend the 1-2 hours focused on some waiter instead of spending time with me.

5+ times a week? God damn. I wish I could afford that

Not always dinners/sit-down restaurants
I do sit-down meals out 1 or 2 times a week.

to me, the amazing thing is that a good bartender can work 7 or 8 customers at the bar and STILL give you better service by themselves than the clueless swarm service you get on the floor .. it amazes me that three people can't give you the service at your table what a bartender working FAR fricking harder than they are can give you ...

meh .. just be the bigger man behind the bar and take care of the customer .. you have no idea what kind of day that guy was having .. he could have found out his 9-year-old had been diagnosed with cancer or something that day ... he might have just been going in there to relax or take his mind off of some horrible news ... give him good service and don't always judge him by the first thing he does ..

Ask glassman about his experience with the service industry.
We've discussed this on here before. He said he couldn't tell you a time he's had bad service because, just like I said, service is not what you should be thinking about when you're dining out.

He's also done a lot of coke.

Thanks for the quick reply, LL.
I agree with your view of the Golden Rule; you just seem young--in general. Not a thing wrong with that. Cheers!
