having worked in retail off and on since i was 15 years old, i have always believed everyone by law should have to work with the retail public for one calendar year .. this world would be a better, more understanding place if they had to ..

Yeah well I've worked with the public before and that's why I know I hate it.

I worked at Sonic for 1 year. Winn Dixie for 1 year. Hollister Co. for half a year.

The worst part of these kinds of jobs for me personally is the off-time. I remember at Winn Dixie, you could request time off and the manager had the right (and used it) to just ignore it and schedule you anyway. I have friends at other retails jobs that have the same shite happen.
I don't take off for stupid reasons.. I only take off when I need to. So when I request off, I find it very rude to ignore it and not let me.

I am considering Dempsey's, but I'd feel bad starting a job like that when I have 2 trips planned this summer.

Nah. The other day in a thread about someone with an empty space to open something, i said good home-type food would be what I'd do. But I don't truly plan on doing anything like that myself.

I do PR <3 Which I know.. deals with people. But in a different way.

Not sure what to say since you've never had bad service. I guess everyone kowtows when you walk through the door.

You can't see it in your head? You can use one of those incredibly unimaginative names, just like a contractor does - LL Catering.

What the frick is a kowtow? I don't know why you're being snappy. I've never had bad service because I don't get mad when someone makes a simple mistake. I guess if I wanted to count every time I don't get an immediate refill.. or times when service is slower than somewhere else.. but those things don't anger me.

just give them your dates up front and tell them you will accept the job with the understanding that you need those days off because you had these trips already planned .. the G family will definitely understand ..

I'm going to keep it in mind as a last resort :) I have applied at some other places this past week and I'd like to hear back from them first.

There are so many factors that go into why I can't really accept a job like Dempsey's. It's not that I don't want to.. I just have other responsibilities to tend to at night.
