Taking the kids to the Color Factory in a couple of weeks and looking for Lunch and Dinner Recs Near Richmond Ave and Kirby Dr.
Kid's aren't real picky about food and looking for a local place or two to check out.

Mia's is super family friendly
Goode Company Seafood
El Tiempo
Pit Room down Richmond towards Montrose
Candente...also a short drive down Richmond towards Montrose
Relish
Local Foods-lunch spot
Hungry's over in Rice Village
Little Matt's in West U...also really kid friendly
How old are your kids?

We are going to the color factory and then to the hotel pool to finish then off. Wife and I will drink beers in the room that night

Word...my kids are 4 and 3...all the joints on that list, except for maybe Local Foods will be a hit with your kids.
Relish is probably a little "nicer" than all the rest of them, but they have a kids menu.
Matt's and Mia's in particular will be the biggest crowd favorites for your kiddos.
Matt's was opened in memory of the owners' son...they donate money back to Texas Children's Hospital...place has iPad stations for kids, small arcade, candy...all the show stoppers.
Mia's has a giant chicken fried steak for dad and free soft serve for your kids.

Throw in Carrabbas on Kirby for being family friendly. Its not part of the chain, the original that Johnny Carrabba still owns (he also owns Mia's). They will give the kids pizza dough to play with if you ask them.

There are lots of really good restaurants in that area. You might want to consider Fat Bao (get avocado fries) as it is close to Color factory. Hobbit Cafe is also good.
