You're making a HUGE mistake. You're assuming that general population reflects what is happening amongst a select population in New Orleans. NOLA has a nice little crafty community -- but shite. LA doesn't even have unified statewide distribution. When I go visit my parents we can barely get beers from breweries that have been in LA for over a year. You might have craft excitement in NOLA, BR, hell, Lafayette and Shreveport, but for the most part LA isn't supporting the industry. If I were a brewery and looking to make money, there are countless states I'd be looking to expand to before LA. And that doesn't even touch on how shitty our distributors here are. Why the frick would I give my beer, especially hoppy beer, to some a-hole that's gonna hold it in a factory for 3-4 weeks before retail?
LA beer distribution is like the gay movement -- "It gets better."

I think this probably is more due to regulation and not to people not liking craft beer. The two GOAT breweries in the state are in Laffy and S-Port.
I mentioned brewpubs. Brewpubs are great because they attract both the craft beer lovers and the non-craft beer lovers. If regulations prevent brewpubs from opening, then the laws need to be changed. I think Louisiana could be a very good market for craft beer. I would love to open a brewpub there (if I was in the business).
McMenamin's makes a killing in Oregon with nothing but brewpubs. Their beer is not great, but I think that model would work just about anywhere, if the laws would allow it.

I dunno, Jax. When you venture into rural LA, craft beer is pretty...shunned. The metros are your best bet, and even that is suspect. I think it's indicative of a greater resistance to change in the vein of the whole Alabama "What's wrong with the beer we got? The beer we got drink pretty good, don't it?" We might see brewpubs in places like NOLA, but NOLA is hardly reflective of the rest of the state, that much is apparent. Entirely different culture.
The day we get a quality brewpub in Shreveport, Lafayette, or hell, Lake Charles, is the day I'll think LA has arrived on the scene. I don't include BR because it'll happen there sooner.
