Same here. I would go broke at that price point. I find wine to be a daily necessity while raising a toddler.

Is anyone a member of those wine clubs that autoship? I've been considering it.

In my humble and possibly incorrect opinion, I don't find a great (if any) difference between a $20 or $50 bottle of wine. Seriously.

You can find some pretty good 20$ bottles that will live up to their 40-50$ counterparts but try putting run of the mill 9-10$ bottles up against your favorite 30$ and you will absolutely taste a difference in the finish. If you don't believe me, go back and try Franzia after a 20$ bottle.

I knew a few people that tried it and ended up with 1-2 bottles they didn't like each shipment so it raised the price of the bottles they did like.

Oh, well of course. The difference between a $5-$9 bottle versus $40+ is huge. But not so much a disparity between a $15-20 bottle versus $40. I have some favorites (cabs) that are $16-18 range.. And i prefer those to my rich best friend's parents $80-90 bottles.

I got a decanter for Christmas and I find that it absolutely changes the smell and taste of wines. Also, just like left overs, they are very different day 2. I recently got into the habit of trying two different bottles at a time so I have something to compare it to. I have learned much more about the taste and difference between the grapes with this method rather than blindly buying bottles off the bottom shelf at Rouses.

Favorite white is a relatively inexpensive variety from Italy--Vermentino.
There's a California wine maker named Blair Fox who has been making Vermentino for several years now at his winery in the Santa Ynez Valley area of Santa Barbara County. Very nice wines. I look forward to them every year.

ETA: I'm glad to see you're still posting on td.com. Long time no see.

Thanks for letting me know! I'm always looking for different varieties. Alexander's brought in one for me last year, it was pretty good but not my favorite. The original one I had in Italy, and favorite, is the same one they get at martins. Restaurant August has it too. Cheers, LA!

PS: my husband got me some fresh wine keeper for Christmas. It works really well. Just pour the entire bottle in there and it stays fresh until I drink it all..which is usually in less than a week. Always less than a week. Ha.

Scooba, 05,06,07,08. I attended a few of those parties in my day.
