It is a sauce made from chocolate and they do it because they like it.

You're welcome.

never heard about it.

I do butter mashed up in cane syrup, schmered on hot biscuit.

On maybe raspberry jelly.

Or maybe a slice of ham

or maybe a sausage patty

or maybe a slice of bacon,

or maybe egg yolk

or maybe redeye gravy

or maybe sausage gravy

or maybe apple butter

or maybe tuna salad.

I was sor'ta lost in culinary delight myself.

And then it just happened, sort of like when Caesar Cardini invented the Caesar salad.

I prefer tomato gravy over chocolate gravy.

Try it sometime. Add stewed tomatoes to milk/cream gravy and cook for about 5 minutes. Add salt and pepper to taste, put on open faced or crumbled buttermilk biscuits.

It's best when the bacon grease from frying the strips is used for the roux, sausage is still good though.

My grandmother used to make biscuits with chocolate sauce for my father when he was a child in Mississippi back during the depression

Chocolate gravy? I've had it, and I've gotta admit, it was pretty damn good. I'm not sure what was in it, I'm assuming chocolate mixed with a roux and thickened, but I'd eat it again.

my step mom makes it. I had never heard of it until she made it. She grew up with it in south central TN. Looks just like the picture. It is very good on biscuits but not something I would eat regularly.

It's called chocolate gravy around here. My wife makes it and it is pretty amazing! Not something you want every day but hits the spot once a month or so. Best with a little cinnamon added to it.

My friends mom made this when I was growing up in Lake Charles, only she didn't make it thin like a gravy, it was thick like Nutella. Really good on toast.

I prefer normal biscuits and gravy, but the few times I had the chocolate stuff I really enjoyed it.

According to Bobby Flay on Portlandia, they're called marionberries in Oregon, but they're just blackberries in the other 49 states. LINK
