The other espresso thread got me thinking. I've been cutting calories and I've switched my caffeine source to espresso with nothing in it. I enjoy black coffee and I've had great espresso elsewhere. Where can I find a really good espresso in the city? I've tried a few places recently and pretty much hated them all. I know what I'll get at the chains (PJ's, CC's, Starbucks), and I don't expect it to be great.

Lately I've been to MOJO (meh), The Station (also meh), and Cherry (terrible, even sour).

I honestly like the product coming out of my Nespresso machine at home more than anything else I've found in this area.

Did you learn to love espresso from the Nespresso?

No. I was on a trip in Portland in 2019. The city is a shite hole now and the people suck at pretty much everything else, but they made good espresso almost everywhere I went.

if you don't like the ones you mentioned then play it safe and go to French Truck.

also Petite Rouge Cafe uses French Truck beans but I don't know if they have an espresso machine.

Eat some awesome Gelato and grab an espresso at piccola gelateria on Magazine next to Napoleon. I’ve never had the espresso but imagine it would be good. The owners are husband/wife and it’s a pleasant experience. However, they are only open in the afternoon/evening so that may not get you what you’re looking for.

I like mojo but I usually take it in an americano or red eye. Can still taste the properties even when it’s off. But they are pretty good

French truck cannot pull espresso for shite. At least the one on dryades

There used to be a little shoe box sized place in the Quarter, right behind Jackson Square, Spitfire, that would make my favorite espressos.

I think covid did them in, sadly, although I they tried to open again somewhat recently at another spot. According to their instagram they gave that one up, though.

Undergrowth Coffee on Magazine is really good. She roasts all her own beans, plus she makes all of her syrups in house (which won't apply to you). It used to be Hey Cafe, which was also great coffee, but they moved to somewhere else.
