Okay, FWIW, JMHO:
Strawn's is fine, but again, it is a diner. We usually eat at the one near the corner of Youree and 70th (like 3 blocks from the Clarion on the same side of street.)
Texas Street Tavern: I've been there once and it was shortly after they opened. The food was fine. The waitress was nice, but the atmosphere was not as upscale as they wanted you to believe. Nice decor, the owner or manager came in with friends and drank and got rowdy watching a football game 10 feet away from us (I say owner/manager because he went into the kitchen and everyone that worked there stopped to talk to him.)
For Mexican, I prefer Trejo's. But, as stated before, go to the one on Shreveport/Barksdale in front of Barksdale Air Force Base. It is just a hop, skip and a jump from Centurytel. My mother loves El Mariachi....I thought it was disgusting. But many of my friends like it as well.
My partner and I have started eating at the privately owned places. We are tired of eating at chains that have no flavor or character. I've never been to Herby K's (and I've lived here most of my life.) Everyone speaks highly of it. Same with Olive Street Bistro -- you don't hear people dogging it.
I'm a restaurant manager myself, but my restaurant is not a "hometown secret." What concert are you attending?

I recommended El Mariachi, perhaps not on this thread. It's great and cheap. South of BAFB towards Parkway High School.

Actually I am hoping to see Third Day at the first Baptist church on Texas St. So you can see why I would like to find a family friendly type restaruant.

For a sit down family of 4 meal
$0 to $50 = Cheap
$50 to $75 = Average
$75 to $100 = Pricey
$100 to 200 = Expensive
$200 + = Showing Off

The guy that owns Texas Street was a co-owner of Country Tavern in Shreveport. He now owns Silver Star on Benton Road. Pretty good bbq there. It is just down from First Baptist.

If you're going for BBQ, Country Tavern is the only one to consider. I tried to go to Texas Street Tavern once over the break and it was rented out, they told us to go to Silver Star. It was mediocre at best, and that's being very very generous. Oh, and they don't serve beer - that was a deal breaker.
Edit: I think there needs to be a moratorium on throwing "tavern" at the end of a restaurant name.

Texas Street and Country Tavern use almost the same recipes, suppliers, everything. They are almost the same place.

I went to Madison Square Garden last night and it was really good. $9.95 marinated crabclaws and $11.95 crabmeat au gratin. The bread pudding was incredible. It was their hamburger special night (Wed.). We didn't have one, but there were a lot of people eating them. Seemed like a good family place.

Well, if the concert is at First Baptist Bossier, then Texas Street Tavern is just down the road.
Also, there is a Trejo's on Airline drive which is about 5-7 minutes from the church. The service at the Airline Trejo's is good. That's the only reason I recommend the Shreveport-Barksdale Trejo's. (The service at the new one stinks!)
Within 10 minutes drive you will also find your typical Chili's, Applebees kind of places.
There is a Strawn's down Airline drive and a Monjuni's. You have Shogun (hibachi grill and sushi) on Texas Street and about 20 fast food/semi fast food close by. The Louisiana Boardwalk is within 10 minutes drive and we have a Cheesecake Bistro, Saltgrass, Joe's Crabshack, Buffalo Wild Wings and Fuddrucker's down there.
So, depending on how long you intend on staying, you could hit up a few places. If you stay at the Clarion, you are looking at possibly a 15-20 minute drive depending on traffic. If you can get a decent rate at one of the casinos or at the Shreveport Convention Center (I think it is a Hilton), they would be pretty close to your concert. Maybe check with the church and see if they have a block of rooms reserved anywhere for people coming in from out of town. Just an idea.
If you need any other information, let me know. I'm not on everyday, but should be able to help if needed.
