I love caramel and never heard about caramel pies until very recently. I couldn’t find a recipe on TD so I decided to give making it a shot. I couldn’t believe how easy it was to make. I made it last night and finished it today to bring to a NYE party tonight.
1- graham cracker crust
2- cans sweetened condensed milk
1- tablespoon sea salt
1- can Redi Whip
1- Hershey’s bar
•take labels off cans and put in put of water and bring to boil at high temp. (Make sure cans are submerged and stay submerged during the entire cooking process). Once boiling, lower to medium/high for 4 hours. (I checked every 30 mins to see if water needed to be added)
•After 4 hours, carefully open can, pour into pie crust, and smooth out caramel.
•Evenly apply sea salt across top of caramel then place in refrigerator to cool
•Once cooled, add Redi Whip then crushed chocolate pieces.

I make a version of this for Thanksgiving every year. No sea salt but add sliced bananas and whip cream.

I boil for 3 hours checking every hour
I’ve made it probably 10-15 times & only had an explosion once when opening the can
Cleaning caramel from the ceiling was something I don’t want to do again
I’ve never tried sea salt, I just use cool whip & take a veggie peeler & make chocolate curls from the Hershey bar

I do this every Christmas. I have 1 specific magnolite pot I use. Has the little rings in the bottom of the pot from all the rattling. Four hours of rattling
