Dutch oven recipes

Just bought a 5 qt lodge with the lid that doubles as a skillet. What are your go to meals to prepare in one. Mainly bought it since I’m tired of using a big stainless pot for stuff like chili and big soups, but I’ve seen that people make bread in them too.

Sounds like Chuck roast time to me.
-Dust roast lightly in flour seasoned with salt/pepper
Add a few tbs oil to pot and brown the roast good on all sides and remove.
-Add a little broth/stock/water to deglaze the bits at the bottom and add a sliced onion, 2 sliced carrots, and 2 sliced celery ribs
-Return roast to pot, add preferred liquid to cover 3/4 of the roast, a bay leaf and cover the pot.
Into 350* over for 2-3 hours until roast is tender.

Yes, a loaf of no-knead bread is a good way to use that skillet/DO combi cooker.
Basic recipe/technique here: LINK
When it comes time to bake the bread, you can transfer it to the skillet part and use the DO as the lid. It is easier to transfer the loaf into the shallow part rather than the deeper part.

Apple pie
5 granny smith apples cored and cut up

In a bowl, place apples and cover with lemon juice. Mix dry ingredients in a separate bowl. Then, mix dry ingredients into the apple mix.
Grease your dutch oven with Crisco. Pour in the apple mixture. Then, cover you mixture with a pie crust or yellow cake mix.
Place your pot onto you coal bed then cover lid with hot coals. Its ready 5 minutes after you smell apple pie. (about 30-35 minutes)

Coach if I was to do this in my oven I would guess 300 degrees?

When I make it in the oven, its in a traditional pie pan with crust on the bottom and either crust or sugar crumble on top. It calls for 425 for 15 minutes. Then, back down to 350 or 375 for 30-45 depending on how hot you oven cooks.
Just a hint, you cannot over Crisco your pot. Also, it may not cut like a regular pie due to it being in a pot. We scoop it out and like to eat it in coffee cups with a scoop of vanilla ice cream on top. Blue Belle or home made of course.
