I like doe's b/c i like that type of atmosphere and big steaks. No where close to the best steak I've ever had, but they're good.
Possibly the best steak of my life was at ruffino's. Dry aged steak

Not gonna lie, that steak is the best I've had in BR hands down.

I like them both but I don't compare the two. For one, at Ruffino's they have a great 45 day ribeye that is phenominal however they also have a kobe beef hanger steak that is just as good imo.
Doe's I've had the porterhouse which is really good and the sirloin which is good as well, but not the same cuts as above. Different flavors and textures from all four and I like them all. I've never had a ribeye at Doe's and rarely (although I had one recently) do I order filet anywhere.
But I'll say for a good steak to cook at home that I like to use for my "weekday" steak is a big sirloin. I used to get the big ones at Albertson's, grill it medium rare with a good bit of salt and pepper, let it rest and slice against the grain. Feeds the whole family.
I think what you are asking is apples to oranges.
Plus I can get a really good bottle of wine to go with that 45 day steak which makes it all the more better.

Thanks for the informative post martini
When stating that I'm going to ruffinos, friends say doe's is just as good ect.
I didn't buy it.

couldn't agree more .. both places are good, but really aren't comparable in both experience and quality ... when i just want a big arse piece of steak and cold beer .. i hit doe's .. if i want an incredibly delicious steak with a great bottle of wine, i go to ruffino's ...

Well it's like comparing Ugly Betty with Jennifer Anniston. You'd hit Ugly Betty-and then drink a beer. Jennifer Anniston would make you start smoking Benson & Hedges Menthols when you finished.

when i was in my 20s .. that wouldn't even have taken beer ..

Doe's wins in the size dept.

I'm almost exclusively a ribeye guy, and I'd say Ruffino's 45-day aged ribeye wins.
I'd take Doe's ribeye over Ruffino's regular ribeye though, without a doubt.
And the atmosphere's are totally different as noted, so whichever way you'd prefer isn't going to be a bad choice.

well, they do have some big ones. I almost always get the smallest porterhouse (1.5# and up to 3.5# iirc)

This. And as I've gotten older, I'm more than satisfied with 4 to 6 ounces of meat. Slicing it lets people eat only what they want instead of struggling to put down a pound and a half of meat. Maxwell's Market has a London broil cut that is the ideal thickness for grilling and slicing.

I would rather Ruffino's steaks. We ate at Doe's and yes they are bigger cuts, but they had this weird "sauce" on top of it. I wouldn't call it the juices from the steak, but more of a kitchen bouquet type of "sauce". I really didn't know what it was.
