But at least Saint Arnold bottles their good stuff. I'd respect Abita a helluva lot more if they bottled their Selects.
Agreed, I'd actually buy some of their stuff and want to talk about it every once in a while.

difference is Abita won't put out stupidly small amount of their best beers like Saint Arnold's will. I mean, seriously, only sending in enough to last 45 minutes at the downtown Specs? That's just cheap, fake, gimmicky bullshite
Just a testament to the anticipation of this brew (there was a limit to the amount one could purchase too). The brewery in downtown produced all it could. It's not like they have unlimited production capacity...

Wonder if Calandro's will get some in and only share it with their employees like they have done in the past?
My buddy that works for SA says DR is watched over very closely internally. It is the only thing the employees have to pay for, and they are really limited on what they can buy. Looks like I'll pry a a few out of him, but he's not doing a lot of sharing. I'm sure someone will report back from Avenue-wonder if Bulldog or The Cove will score a keg?

I have no doubt that Avenue Pub will score multiple kegs... I hope Bulldog or Cove does as well. I just wonder if anyone but Avenue Pub will be patient and age it like intended?

no, but we are coming to BR in a few weeks, and if you have one, I might try to catch up with you then

no, they produced all they were will to produce. They aren't willing to make more, because then it's not as "rare" and therefore not as special
this tactic is in no way limited to Saint Arnold's either, but usually you see it when breweries age beers with bourbon barrels or some such

I'll holler at you if my two liquor stores fail to deliver
Actually, if you happen to see or hear of it at whole foods I might have someone that can run by there for me

I just got 2 cases in the BR market today. Cracked open a bottle at work for the staff. Loved the beer. Nice balance for all of the alcohol.

Picked up some myself. Didn't try yet, but will soon and then pack it away to age for a while.

I kind of agree. It def does make it a bit more special and gets extra hype bc of it, but it isnt the only thing keeping them from upping production.
when doing a one time brew you are taking a risk. It could suck an word would spread (bc people wouldnt be racing for it and would actually wait to see what others say/rank it). Stuff would sit on shelves and not move.
Another thing is that most limited stuff is expensive to produce (higher malt and or hop bill, if barrel aged you have to take into account money spent on shelf space and in the end it could come out sour, etc).
So a one time brew is risky. I like the way st arnold has been releasing previous DRs (pumpkinator, endeavor). That is a nice touch and since they know they have a good recipe, they arent afraid to make more of it.

I bought a few 6 packs.
Good stuff! Very well rounded.

DR#11 and Pumpkinator are better than anything Abita has put out except maybe a couple of selects.
Abita hasn't brewed anything that compares to those two with the exception of the Oyster Stout and that one never got bottled and it wasn't even really their beer.

Yep. I've got a 750ml bottle of the original version of that oyster stout just waiting until it cools off. It just baffles me why they won't do a limited bottling of their Selects.
