Yes I am. However, I'm not sure that anyone who refers to a fancy donut shop as lovely should be attempting to insult anyone's masculinity. The best thing about District is walking by it on the way to Stein's.

The issue with their donuts, to me at least, is they're entirely too heavy. The dough is very dense and the toppings take over the taste of the donut itself. They server what is more like mini cakes.

This is the second time I have seen someone remark about the denseness of the District's doughnuts and comparing them to cake doughnuts in terms of consistency.

Again that their yeast doughnuts are nowhere close to cake doughnut thickness or heaviness. Try Mr. Ronnie's if you think otherwise.

However, I will agree that the toppings certainly dominate the taste. But isn't that the point of ordering that sort of doughnut?

If you want just fried bread with a hint of sweetness then by all means get a plain doughnut or a glazed doughnut if you prefer few frills.

I prefer variety and eccentric ingredients, so it works perfectly for me.

I've been wanting to try the wedding cake and toasted coconut. Their filling/icing are great. The cake needs a little work imo.

I would imagine that their wedding cake is fantastic. They had a banana pudding doughnut today and a banana's foster option recently and I am immensely jealous that I couldn't sample either option.

Their lineup this weekend looks pretty tamed but I am excited to try their PB&J and apple strudel.

Place is a little overrated IMO. Sure they have unique donuts but at the end of the day, the GOAT donut, Glazed, is just not that good.

Hear, hear. All the ecstatic praise for bakers who can't make dough is more than a little silly.

Are you insinuating that a male can't use the term 'lovely'? Because if so then I am calling you out for being a damn sexist.

fancy donut shop

Is it the prices or the atmosphere that qualifies it as being fancy? The atmosphere is admittedly one of my favorite aspects of the establishment and the value is not extreme when you consider the quality of the food.

RE: texture. I've had my fair share of Mr. Ronnies, Krispy Kreme, Tastee, Maple St Patisserie, Blue Dot, Baker's Dozen. We get doughnuts at the office twice a week & have for more than a decade, mostly plain glazed with the occasional cake or sprinkles/nuts/toppings thrown in for variety's sake.

I LIKE the slightly heavier texture of District; it has a distintly yeasted flavor & better "chew" than the airball puffs from Mr Ronnies or Baker's Dozen. To me, it's like comparing a fluff loaf of Leidenheimer's with a multigrain baguette. They're different things, with different textures.

Drive from Prairieville to New Orleans....... for a donut.

Must suck to know that with all the hype, the jacked up prices, the lines, the "creativity," the social media fan boys .. with all that, District still can't frick with a Hearne Avenue Southern Maid.

I'm going to New Orleans for a concert and to enjoy a day in the city. At what point did I remark that I was driving more than an hour just to get doughnuts?

I for one am highly offended that this would be frowned upon!

2. Do they serve doughnuts until close or do they stop at a certain point in the day?

They do, but they run out of some stuff.

Vietnamese Iced Coffee doughnut is the tits. Hope they have it when you go.

And the coffee at Stein's is better than District's.
