She is borderline or over the point of being on a starvation diet in fact.

At 118 pds??? She isnt even that far under maintennance.

I would bet she is eating a couple hundred calories over 1400 anyway. Most people drastically undercount calories.

She may be counting calories, but is she tracking other areas? Grams of fat? Carbs? Sugars? Protein? Myfitnesspal.com. It'll count your macros based on what you want to do.

I'm sure this works differently for everyone but it's my suggestion.

5-2 118 is a little bit heavy .. probably just needs to lose 6 to 8 pounds... nothing dramatic.

It should be easy to do with diet and exercise except for one thing... Cheating. A lot of women who diet say they are sticking with it but they're not.

Macros mean shite at that level. She could get all 1400 kcals from high fructose corn syrup and it wouldn't change the simple thermogenic equation.

Dunno what world you live in, but 118 at 5'2" is not even REMOTELY "a little bit heavy". Get real. Not every body is designed to be skinny. I know fitness instructors who are 5'2" and 140, pure muscle and incredibly fit. The scale's number does not equal health.

I'm sorry if you're fat. Didn't mean to offend.
My wife is 5-7, 118. She has very hard muscle mass and very little fat. Due to 3 things:
a. I prepare all of her food to control calories, salt and fat.
b. She works out like a demon from hell.
c. She takes 'supplements.'

Her running partner (who is also a woman age around 50) is 5-9 115. She has very soft muscle and doesn't look so good. Don't know what her eating habits are but everyone in the gym thinks she needs to gain weight.

5-2 at age 26 means weight issues in the future because she might have kids and there is no place to put the extra weight.

My mom was 5-3, 100 when I was born. She was 40 years old. She was not skinny.

Our culture is accepting heavier weights as normal due to obesity.

Here's a very interesting graphic from the BBC: LINK

Plug in your height and weight, and it will show the GB summer games athlete corresponding to your metrics. Excellence comes in many sizes, including 5'2", 140 lb sailor Lucy MacGregor, and 5'3", 140 lb sprinter Michelle Ayhe. You can call them "fat" but they're Olympians.

With the workout, I think she's pretty significantly under maintenance. Correct me if I'm wrong

118Xx12=1416 to maintain.

Adjust from there.

That 12 can be changed depending on metabolism and exercise.

Remember that a woman can retain up to 5lbs of water one week a year so that kind of thing could need to be factored in.

Yeah and that's net even from diet.

Hell, my weight goes from 177 to 182 after the weekend... Did I eat 17,500 calories over BMR? No.

Sodium is the answer.
