Destin Area Restaurant Reviews (Pic Heavy)

Just spent a week down in the Destin Miramar Beach area. We had some great meals. Here are the spots we hit. The first night we grabbed Camille’s on the beach road. Ever since they added a sushi bar their popularity has grown faster than their kitchen can keep up. Their food is good, but not worth the slow service. Go early, or pass. Our next stop was a place I asked on here about, Camellfo. It was good. I think it will stay in our yearly rotation.
Their Calamari was very lightly fried with a really good marinara sauce. My wife had the Burrata Caprese salad which was delicious.
For my entree, I had the prosciutto wrapped stuffed chicken breast with the smoked Gouda cheese sauce. It was a great flavor combination.
Our next dinner may have been the highlight of the trip. We ran into a neighbor on the beach who recommended this place. It’s a restaurant called Ovide inside the Hotel Effie in the Bay Towne area. We started with a Caesar salad topped with white anchovies and Smoked Salmon Deviled Eggs.
I had the Short Rib entree which was outstanding.
Our next dinner was at Soleil. It’s the restaurant inside the Inn at Crystal Beach. It was opened by Chef Michael Sitchel(sp) who was the head chef at Galatoires in NOLA for a while. He has since left, but the food is still on point. I didn’t get any pics because we were rushing to get kids to a movie. The next day was July 4th. Nothing says America like a Mexican dinner. We hit up a guilty pleasure of ours in Cantina Laredo. It’s inexpensive, quick, and always decent. I had a shrimp stuffed poblano pepper wrapped in skirt steak. It was quite good.
Our final dinner was at Mimmo’s in Destin proper. We stumbled on this place last year, and it did not disappoint this year. I started with the Calamari(yes I have a thing for calamari). I had to hurry up and get a pic because everyone was destroying it. It’s different than most in that it’s fried in a bread crumb mixture, but it’s a highlight on their menu.
For my entree, I had the Veal Mimmo. The picture doesn’t do it justice. It was fantastic. The veal and the sauce were so rich and flavorful, there was no way I was able to finish all of the pasta.
We had a great time, water was perfect, and we found some new places to eat. Great trip.
