I'll be down for the LSU/App game. I spent about month in the area with the RedCross after Katrina. Is Dempseys still the greates place on earth as I remeber it? Still open, full of friendly staff and good damn food. There was another place on past Dempseys on Courssey(sp) down near the entersection with Woodlawn( i think) Bar that had dollar bills signed all over the place. Anyone know what I'm talking about? I enjoyed a few cold beers and some damn good catfish there. Thanks

Yeah, they've got really good food, and the staff at Dempsey's from the owners (Gugich) on down do a great job.

The other place you're talking about is George's I think, unless it's Buddy's Seafood. If it's George's, the place is hit or miss as far as being consistent with their food, and you'll walk out of George's with a grease smell on your clothing, and the place seems really dirty & nasty....I've haven't been to Buddy's since it moved into the shopping center across from where Woodlawn HS used to be.

ETA: Is Buddy's still open?

Thanks for the help. Georges was good but Dempseys was some of the best food I've ever had. I loved that place must have eatin there 15-20 times in that month. I got to meet a lot of great folks in the area. The folks at Dempseys treated me very well.

Is Dempseys open on Sunday? Wife and I are heading to NO Sunday for a few days. I plan on hitting them at least twice while we're in BR.

Damn that sucks...

I had only ate there once, but I thought the food was pretty good IMO.

meh, i could take it or leave it .. the patio's nice in the fall on fridays during football season, but the food is greasy and average at best .. personally, i have never really found dempsey's to be that much better .. i really lump dempsey's, george's, sammy's, etc. together, because the food is all about the same ..

I thought the steaks were fantastic. He moved to a pretty crappy location when he moved by the old Woodlawn.

Buddy has been the king of crappy locations.

Steaks were good, but the seafood avg IMO..

The best location he had was across from the wall-mart on O'neal. Just was to small for his type or resturant.

But talk about someone whos made some moves.

I remember when he tryed the old catfish house on N. Little John . Then moved in the back of an office complex On Harrels Ferry. That didn't last long, then O'Neal lane location.
Then he moved to George O'neal just in time for the construction, as soon as they finish the 4-lane construction he moved to the present site hidden in that shopping center.

Sorry to hear he has closed, he really is a nice guy.

glad to hear you think so highly of the business, man...everyone there enjoys hearing those words and if you're in town, make a mention of it to the guy behind the counter wearing an LSU hat (that'd be me)...

and rag, for future reference, i'm part owner...

i honestly couldn't tell you, law man .. i used to go here and there when buddy's was on george o'neal, but never went when he moved to tiger bend and jones creek .. that spot just never worked for restaurants .. it didn't work for sammy's or kc's bbq either ..

Dempsey's Chicken and Sausage

and

Capitol City Grill's Chicken and Sausage (On Sherwood)

The Dempsey's French Dip is killer....better get some napkins tho! Grip u a cup of chicken and sausage gumbo and then tha dip!
