I usually don't eat crawfish this late in the year....but had a chance to drink some beers and eat some crawfish at Cormier's in Monroe last week.

Although I don't agree with the seasoning method, the crawfish were properly cooked, clean and very tasty. The service was prompt and friendly.

Everything was well done and I can highly recommend this NELA establishment if you are not rolling your own boil.

The owner is a Cajun transplant. Let's not give Funroe too much credit here.

By far the best place to go for boiled crawfish in the Mecca.

The guys at Cayenne Crawfish will give my friends Larry and Jamie a run for their money. Both are good. But so many posters on this board would raise hell about how the coonass Cormiers season their crawfish. I find it funny.

Nah. Coney Island knows how to soak them. The pig sandwich at Cormier's is legit, but that ice chest seasoning is an abomination.

There are several elements you have to deal with at Coney Island though. Volume, smell, that death trap parking....

None of which deal with the quality of the crawfish. I'll gladly endure that for properly cooked and seasoned crawfish.

So, did the "Cajun transplant" bring his Cajun method of ice chest seasoning to Mecca,, or did "Funroe" teach him, someone does deserve credit, your answer?

This.

Back in the day, El Josey Wales and I would frequent the Coney Island during lunch once every other week or so. Josey was a brute of a fella that shopped in the husky department most of his adult life and would never speak to the old dickhead that ran that place. He always made me order and pay for him. I loved the dickhead's crawfish and kept telling Joey he was a fine fella, just had the personality of a rattlesnake. I will always associate the Coney Island with excellent crawfish and the old dickhead.

RIP EJW

there's lots of folks that share Josey's sentiments about that propeitor. I agree they put out a better crawfish. I like the setup at Cormiers a lot better though. I'd just as soon boil my own really.

RIP El Josey.

How ironic.....

Btw, crawfish city is usually the "spiciest" around, has a few more things on the menu like shrimp, sausage, etc. Pretty much a bar set up, normally the cheapest price per lb, down in washitaw parish.

I moved from West Monroe in 2005 and have never ate at Crawfish City. Cormier's has been around since the 1980s and it was good, but not great.
