I prefer Galatoire's as well but the atmosphere at Commanders is worth the experience
Commanders will never be what it was back in the day from a food experience but still a nice dining experience without having to head downtown

They have a flexible but upscale dress code. They won’t kick you out without a jacket like they would if you were wearing shorts or a tee shirt but you may feel out of place without one. I have never gone there without a jacket.

If you order the cup of gumbo, remember to also order a little rice for it too.
They will look at you like you're cra-cra.

gotten all this and enjoyed.
Get a cup of coffee too
They have the darkest fricking coffee. You could poor 1 cup into a gallon of milk and it won’t look like cafe au lait.

Jacket still required?
No, not required. They recommend it, but they will not even mention it as long as you have a nice collard shirt on.
Pants however are required and they will not let you in if wearing shorts.

I used to work at Commander’s back in the day, around 2009/2010. Every shift I helped myself to a cup of Turtle and Gumbo, plus whatever seasonal soup they made. The line cooks would also give me amazing plates that were sent back for the nitpickiest of reasons, like the garnishments not being on the right side of the plate. Ha! True story.
Also true story: I once saw a woman have a food orgasm at the chef’s table in the kitchen when Tory McPhail was in charge. Tory was winning seafood competitions nationally and making old uptown broads cum in the kitchen over some scallops haha. Good times.
That place was a wild place to work. Everyone went out after shifts and got lit like Christmas trees.

like most men I would not dare to enter commanders without a jacket. Some things are self evident

Last time I was there in the fall, they had opened up a new kind of garden room, on the other side of their courtyard. We really enjoyed the area and was nice looking out at the courtyard. Was cool getting to walk through the kitchen to get over there.
If i'm having like a really nice dinner or something, probably wouldn't want to bring whoever i'm with through there and would do the main garden room or something, but for a brunch we really enjoyed it and was cool to see.

That's the Patio Room. It's not new but they recently remodeled it.

Sorry I was thinking of Jamie Shannon who died young.

Just give in and go with the Chef's Playground or whatever they call it. It's worth it.

Chef’s Table in the kitchen is the way to go if you have to do a dinner there.
