I recently got into the Haven beans since my fiancé and the firm she works for designed their Covington storefront. My typical go to is River Road Creole picked up fresh directly from them.

Does Haven beans offer a retail location on the south shore?

Here’s my setup. Braun Multiserve + Capresso Infinity Plus for drip. Turin Legato + Turin DF64 for espresso.

Trying to dial in some light roast Ethiopian Sidamo on the espresso machine. Forgot to grind coarser this morning so had another long and under-extracted pull this morning. Did 18 in, 40 out, over a minute measuring from the time I hit the button. Need to dial back grind til I get a good 1:2 or 1:3 ratio in 30s and adjust from there.

Also have a Mignonette Specialita for the same reasons really. Had it for about 5 years. Great machine. Use it with Joe Coffee Waverly blend.

They’d probably ship to ya

They get their green beans out of Jackson, MS and roast em in house. The owners spared no expense building out Haven, it’s arguably the best shoppe in the Metro area.

Has anyone gotten beans from Current Crop on Magazine street? You can roast beans onsite and they offer cupping and roasting classes. Looks interesting. LINK

I have Onyx out of Rogers, AR on auto delivery -Tropical Weather and Cold Brew.

I saw this as well. It looked interesting to learn at least.

Y’all use the “subscribe by usage”? It comes with a free scale that can predict when you’re about to run out of coffee with some sort of algorithm?

I don’t subscribe from them. I just periodically order various coffees that interest me. Some of the best coffees I’ve ever had have come from them, but it can get really expensive with some of their special offerings. Their standard blends are still really good, reasonably priced, and taste better to me than local single origins.

Amazing what a small grind size adjustment can do. 15 on my DF64 was choking the shot, tried 18 this morning and got a near perfect 18 in 53 out in 40ish seconds. Pressure ramped to about 11 or 12 and came down to 9 for majority of the shot. Currently sipping a very good Americano.

I have mine between 15/16 this morning. 19g shot with a 39g out in 30 seconds. The shot was really nice. This is more of a medium to darker roast coffee. Still using the Costco beans while I break the burrs in. I’ve got four pounds of better coffee coming in on Monday.

Let me know how those are once you break into them. I’ve been ordering from FRC for probably 5 years now. It’s not the greatest coffee ever, but it’s good enough and a good value for roast to order.

Also, if you don’t have one on order yet, highly recommend a bottomless portafilter and a puck screen. I got the MH Bomber or whatever they’re called puck screens off Amazon.

Yeah, I’m gradually going to get into the higher end stuff. I didn’t want to learn how to pull good shots on $40/lb beans.

Have you messed with the flow dial on the Legato? I’d like to slow things down and use a courser grind so I’m not hitting 11/12 bars every time.

Haven’t messed with it yet. Was wanting to really dial in my shot before messing with anything else.

This was my go to whole bean for pour over until they discontinued the whole reserve line recently. Shame because it was great coffee and easily sourced. Now i am on the hunt for a replacement but whole beans are so hard to find locally. I will have to cave in and order online i guess.
