I had some lamb chops over the Christmas holidays. The guy who cooked them seasoned them with salt and pepper, but also added a mixture of sugar and coffee grinds.

It was delicious.

Has anyone here ever used coffee grinds in a brisket rub?

Not a fan. People who can't make a natural bark use it as a crutch.sadly

I use this one, not sure what the hell it has to do with making a bark.

All rubs become part of the bark, rubs with coffee or not. If you like the flavor go with it, there is no "Bark Deity" that you have to bow-wow too.

Ok, so the coffee snob in me had an eye twitch at them referring to coffee grounds, no matter how finely ground, as espresso. Espresso only refers to the final product, having forced water through the grounds at pressure. The grounds themselves are still just coffee prior to that point.

/pedantic a-hole rant for the morning

I add pepper to my steak and pork chop seasoning from time to time...it's good.

As long as they’re ground fine enough, coffee grinds are money in a rub. In Baton Rouge, the Red Stick Spice Co. has an awesome Coffee BBQ rub that I use all the time.

I use this for my Briskets, It is probably one of the most popular rubs in Comp cooking. It has coffee in it but not overpowering. It just adds a depth of flavor along with the shitake mushroom powder in the rub.
