Half Acre and Revolution are two pretty good ones, you can get there via train or uber/lyft.

Half Acre is really small, when I went on a Saturday it was too packed to really enjoy anything so I had one beer and left... so maybe avoid peak times.

I enjoyed Piece a lot, but more for the pizza than the beer, not that the beer was bad.

Begyle Brewing seemed like a good spot, but they were doing an Okroberfest block party when we went, so I didn't really sit and enjoy all the beers. What I did have was really good... it's right next to Dovetail Brewing, which specializes in German styles. They are right by the train, and walking distance to Half Acre.

The best beer bar I went to downtown was a place called First Draft. Also good place for sports.

- Goose Island has a taproom/production facility on Fulton, just west of West Loop. They also renovated and recently reopened their brew house on Clybourn in Lincoln Park. Both spots should have BCBS on-tap and a variant or two (I'll usually see Barleywine).

- Half Acre opened their Balmoral taproom over the summer. Beautiful facility, but it's pretty far north in Edgewater. Their older Lincoln Ave taproom in Ravenswood/North Center is more-accessible.

- Dovetail is a rustic taproom that isn't far from Half Acre's Lincoln Ave location. They specialize in European-style ales/lagers.

- Forbidden Root is in West Town. I live in River West, so it's a little over a mile west of me.

- Corridor and DryHop are brewpubs that are owned by the same people. Food menu at DryHop is great. If you like hazy, NE IPAs, they're hosting a tap takeover with a few local breweries on Wednesday.

- On Tour is a newer brewery in West Town. Beer is OK, but it's a beautiful facility.

- Doubt you'll make it down to Lagunitas in Pilsen, but a great cold / rainy day spot.

- Revolution is in Logan Square. They've begun releasing beers from their Deep Wood barrel-aged series. There should be a few on tap at their brewpub.

- Hopewell is probably worth a stop if you're at Revolution. It's only a few blocks north.

- Pipeworks does not have a taproom, but they make quality beer. Would go buy some cans at Binny's on Grand, if you get the chance. There are plans to open a brewpub in Lincoln Square in a couple years.

- There are some other breweries/brewpubs: Great Central, Motor Row, Moody Tongue, Old Irving, Begyle, Lo Rez, Great Central, Band of Bohemia

- If you're willing to drive, Noon Whistle, 18th Street and FFF are good spots.

They opened a Balmoral location in the summer that is a lot more spacious, in addition to the Lincoln Ave location.

shite, should have found out about that sooner, we could have easily taken an uber there from Begyle/Dovetail.

Glad to hear.

Outside of the brewery scene, I probably should have included some beer bars, too.

- Bangers & Lace, Fatpour and Links are all in Wicker Park. Maproom is just north of Wicker Park in Bucktown.

- Bitter Pops and Beermiscuous are bottle shops with taprooms in Lakeview. Paddy Long's is close to Beermiscuous and they will be tapping CBS on Wednesday night.

- Hopleaf and Reservoir are about a 1.5 miles apart in Ravenswood and Uptown.

- Howells & Hood is near the river on Michigan Ave. Centennial is less than a mile NW in River North.

- Monk's Pub is across the river in The Loop. Quite the diverse selection of craft beer and imports. Popular after-work spot.

- Since you're staying near Old Town, Pour House has a good amount of beer to choose from, though the list is nothing more than above-average.

- First Draft is in South Loop. Warehouse Liquors has a good beer selection, too, if you stop-in. Might have some Mikerphone bombers laying around.
