..near the intersection of hwy 74 & 30...heard from others that the place was legit so decided to try it. Had the ribs, brisquet, and chicken..The place is legit, everything tasted awesome with the exception of the macaroni. The beans were great. If you order to go ask for extra sauce. I think the meat was better than VooDoo.

I live a few miles away. It is pretty legit and the prices are a lot better than Voodoo. We get the family pack where you get your choice of a pound of meat and some sides.

I just hope they open early this year for LSU gamedays. I called one Saturday morning last year and they weren't going to have food ready until 11ish.

i live a couple miles away as well and have been a few times. the pork is awesome. the beef is good. haven't tried the chicken or sausage. not sure how long that place can survive though. Every time I have gone (around 6 or 7) during the week, I was the only person there and I was just picking up.

yeah the location is not very strategic..but maybe this thread will get some awareness up and people will try it so it stays around...it's not far for those that live off of bluebonnet...oh and fwiw, the chicken is good..they were out of pork, but I thought the brisquet was the best I've had

I hope you're right, I live around the Dutchtown area and will def. be trying this place in the next 2 weeks, thanks to this thread.

Without the thread I would never known it existed.

I got my haircut and Gina's and they had the menu laying around and said it was good...and another friend of mine tried and said it was good...Dutchtown doesn't really have too much except for coastal cafe and subway

Yeah I love the area, but the food selection is scarce. We usually drive back into B.R. to get something to eat.

We've never tried the coastal cafe place, what's good there?

pretty much everything...and you can get it all in a wrap or a sandwich and they have pasta too...I usually go with the bbq brisket on wheat or the chicken and eggplant wrap with pasta salad...eggplant parmesan was pretty good too....G-town has a few good places, for some reason the Brew Bachers there is good(the ones in Baton Rouge have sucked lately that I've been to)

Hwy 74 and 30. That would be St. Gabriel.

Not Geismar, which is located in Ascension Parish.

Big Jake's is actually located in St. Gabriel, which is in Iberville Parish.

Great BBQ and great owners. They used to have a place on nicholson by LSU, but shut it down when the landlord jerked around with his lease. Came back strong. Have not been to new location but i loved their stuffed potatoes.

I'm sure the prisons there keep them in business. Everytime I've gone there's been a few corrections officers in there.

On an unrelated note, the wife and I were discussing how a Dairy Queen would be nice next to the Exxon station in Dutchtown. Anyone want to invest in that and make it happen?

They moved to the current location not too long ago I think. I'm at Hunt Corrections at least 3 days a week and Big Jake's keeps a steady lunch crowd from the prison as well as the plants. I actually think they were closer to LSU down HWY 30 before. Oh, and it the most legit BBQ place in the BR area.

You don't think a DQ would thrive there, even with the Mickie Ds across the street?

All the Dutchtown kids hang out at Sonic to get drinks after school and people in BR would make the drive out instead of going to the one in Central. Just my opinion.

How's business?

I'm interested to see what they are going to do with that piece of land right next to I-10, across from the Shell station.

Bidnez is good now that I am in a different industry.
