home depot
I have used a BGE before and think they are great I just dont think it performs any better than a WSM that is much cheaper. Of course I have a separate grill though too. But I find both are the same with BBQ.. Excellent smokers that will control temp for very long periods.

there's a sliding door at the bottom and a tool that you use to "rake" the ashes out of it.
the BGE is worth every penny, we cook on ours minimum once a week and it's near 2-3 years old now.

dude. i'm telling you a bubba keg is what you want here.
again: price? sizes? details? their website is TERRIBLE and all they apparently want to sell is bubba keg mugs!!!

From what I can find, the bubba keg is $600 at home depot and a BGE is $750. I think for the price difference, I would just go with a BGE. Please correct me if I'm wrong on the prices.

thanks. since the BK website is so turrble, here's what i can find:
the BK has a surface of 450SqI. this is equivilent to the XL BGE (452 SqI). (note: i think this is correct as the BK has the main grill and an upper grill attachment but the home depot website has "main grilling surface" listed as 450SqI)
The xlBGE is $1099 from what i can find noline compared to the BK at $599 on home depot's website.
i've watched the two videos below and the only thing the guys says as a "con" is that he doesn't know how to cook "low and slow like you can on a BGE" and he also shows the numbered setting top and bottom vents. i assume that you can control temp via this. what does the BGE do to allow for "l&s indirect cooking"?

i thought the BK and the regular BGE would be equal as well. basically the BK and the xlBGE have 24" cooking surfaces and the regular BGE is 18"
also, one thing i notice about the BGE is that everywhere you look you have to buy the stand/side tables/etc... it looks like you get the egg for the prices listed. and that's it. so, probably another few hundred bucks to make it equal to the BK (just in terms of "stuff you get". don't get your panties in a bunch, BGE worshipers)
also, F BGE for not having prices for anything listed anywhere.

ding ding ding
winner. its everything you need and you can use a home depot 10% off coupon (always around) to save $60 off the price making the bubba keg even cheaper.
Nitnik and I both love ours..I won a brisket contest against 35ish other competitors with a crappy gas-based smoker and i can tell you hands-down the bubba keg meat turns out even more moist and with a better flavor. can't wait til the next bbq contest
Look up my older threads on here..I had a whole thread about smoking a brisket & butt on the bubba keg a couple months back.

q: what kind of steel is this thing made of? if i were to purchase one, it would be kept outside under a porch (protected from rain except under extreme circumstances) and i'd also buy a cover? how are we talking in terms of durability?
i'm looking at reviews and can't find any that are negative.

hmnm. its stainless steel but its a rough finish so fingerprints dont show up. its double-insulated so even when you crank that sucker up to 800 degrees, you can put your hand on the outside of it.

mine has been on my back porch since mid-summer and unprotected from the weather..espeically since strong winds blew my little gazebo apart a couple months back. no problem there.

yep. go down the bbq aisle at home depot & pick up one of those weber smoker covers..$10 i think. works great and you NEED this cover!! water will get in if you dont have something protecting it. its elastic at the bottom so it bunches up and even with winds that blew the cover off my grill, the cover on the smoker hasn't budged.
also, a little trick is you put the cast iron grate to the lowest position and then you can put both shelves and the 'tool' inside the smoker so the cover will fit.

thing's built like a tank. go to home depot and take a look at it for yourself. i got not problems with how its built and i've even hitched it up to my truck (says you need two people but one person can lift it & slide it on..its not THAT heavy). the trailer hitch is great.

i didnt either. i'll let nitnik chime in as they've had theirs longer than me.
