5. Frosty's Cafe- Good broth, good noodles, and ok meats. I like that they include those little friend onion pieces in the soup and that it's served with cilantro. Pretty small place with only a few tables but I never seem to have trouble getting a table. Very nice people who own and operate this Metairie spot.
have you been since they moved next door?
A good bit bigger.

Ba Mien is in the East, in the shopping center at Michoud and Chef (by the Big Cat). Good bun, pho is not as good as Dong Phoung, Pho Bang.
Dong Phuong has the biggest menu and some legit stuff, including other soups. Hu Tieu Sate is good. The bakery has nice treats and Banh Mi. Bun is not as good as Ba Mien.
Pho Bang's Bun is not as good as Ba Mien, but the pho is good, particularly the pho ga.
tra da chanh is best here, as well (arnold palmer).
The best Banh Mi are are Sao Mai, near Pho Bang. the Dac Biet is the best one, but order it with "one spicy," at least to start.
All of these places are on Chef.
The locals get far more then the Pho, particularly at Dong Phuong.
the market out there (a little off Chef) is good, cheap.

How's that place next door to Lilly's? I didn't even realize it existed until earlier this week when I accidentally parked on the wrong block to get to Lilly's.

42, who has the best Bun?
That's my go to dish.
About to go to Pho Orchid right now because I will be near Houma (street) for my next job. I think they have a legit offering.

Of the ones on Chef, I like Ba Mien for bun. Veggies are better. I get bun tom thit nuong, and the pork is done the way I like. The portion is a little smaller, but so is the price. Pho bang is second, dong phoung is third.
The joint on Houma is fine.
To me, places like Dosun are a different beast based on the prep, but thr Orchid place is closer to the authentic prep.

Did you ever have the "Birds Nest Vermicelli" at Dong Phuong? It was called pressed vermicelli before that, but I think it's been taken off of the menu. The vermicelli wasn't fried, just boiled then pressed.
They served a huge plate of accoutrements with large lettuce leaves to make a wrap. You'd take a piece of lettuce, put a pressed vermicelli 'nest' on it, put the delicious pork on top, accoutrements, wrap, then dip in the fish sauce they'd serve with it.
You aware of any other places that serve this?

I've seen it at a few places, even called birdnest. Pretty sure Pho Orchid has it.

I will look next time I am there. I tend to remember the vietnamese names more than ours... Fewer typos!
