I have seen my dad boil countless times, but sadly I have never payed much attention.

Dude, recipe thread. Lots of great ones. FYI, cut up onions, lemons, garlic , etc, put in spice, bring to a boil, put in sack , once it comes to boil, wait 2 minutes, cut heat, let soak 20 to 30 minutes, taste the whole time. serve.

You can either do a search or go buy them boiled already. Or just get your dad to whip you up a batch.

Really the only major thing many people skip out on is killing the heat. Either throw in a bag of ice or a milk jug of ice tied to a string. PLus spray the sides of the pot with water. Let soak 20-30 min

I thought it was a legitimate question..
Searches for boiled crawfish, or crawfish recipe's only bring up places to eat them already boiled and the other recipe threads are for crawfish dishes, not boiled.
And I searched through the main Recipe thread and TD Cookbook and did not find anything FWIW.

Everyone on here will tell you a different way to cook them...and honestly...it depends on the size and the time in the season...but...here is how I do it and they are usually wonderful.
Season water with crab/shrimp/crawfish boil...to each his own. I don't like liquid and I don't use little bags...I use 1 1/2 bags of Louisiana Fish Fry Crab Boil (the big bags)...for the first batch of crawfish.
Add 6 onions halfed or quartered, 8 lemons, 4 oranges, 8 pods of garlic with the tops cut off (to squeeze out garlic later).
Let boil for 30 minutes before putting in crawfish. Add potatoes 10 minutes before putting in crawfish.
Once crawfish are in the pot...cover and return to boil for 2 minutes (you should see smoke coming from under the pot). This should take about 7 minutes total.
Turn off fire...take off lid and let them soak until they start to sink (about 30 minutes)...start tasting. Add corn after about 20 minutes and you should be good.

I try to clean them really good.
I add a couple of bags of the seasoning mix, the old kind with the spices in the bag. I think it makes a huge difference.
A few lemons.
After that I just buy a jug of the Pro Boil and just follow the directions on the bottle.

This!
I put them in an ice chest and rinse them over and over and over and over...until the water runs clear...then I rinse them again and again. Finally...I put them in a basket and rinse them some more before putting them in...then I pour them in from the extra basket...that keeps the water I am boiling the crawfish in clean.
I forgot one thing from above...for the first batch I add 2 sticks of butter.

The Cajun Land powder boil is awesome.

Really good but I like ALL KINDS of shite thrown in. Artichokes, mushrooms, garlic, asparagus, onions, orange halves, lemon halves, etc.

LouisianaLady...throw-ins are optional.
I prefer no throw-ins because I end up getting full on them and I would rather eat the crawfish. Here is what our basket looked like yesterday when we cooked them. There were tons of throw-ins.
The one thing no pictured are the "poached eggs." We put a strainer over the boiling crawfish and cracked eggs in there...pretty interesting if you have not tried it.
