Maybe not the best but CC’s is good and the original for BR. I worked there in college, 2001, and they were cold brewing then but just calling it iced coffee. Couple years ago they started calling it cold brew but didn’t change anything. Plus they sell it by the gallon for ~10$.

Iced coffee and cold brew aren't the same thing, and the terms shouldn't be used interchangeably. Cold brewed coffee is just that: brewed with cold or room temperature water, generally over the course of hours or days. Iced coffee is normal hot brewed coffee that is subsequently cooled. Cold brewed coffee is less acidic and less caffeinated.

ETA: Not saying what you were doing at CC's wasn't cold brew. I genuinely have no idea. Just wanted to clear up any confusion.

Good post. I’ve wondered about this. Never enough to look it up though. Haha!

That was my point. They were cold brewing for 12 hours and calling it iced coffee but it is and always was cold brew.

This was back in 2001ish before anyone, to my knowledge, was using the term cold brew.

Original PJ’s has been cold brewing before 1995. Starbucks has fricked up the terminology. Starbucks would brew the shitty coffee extra strong cooled it and added ice and called it iced coffee. The company Cool Brew has been making cold brewed coffee since 1989 and PJ’s was before that.

For the record I only drink espresso at Starbucks, coffee at CC’s and cold brew at PJ’s. However, I make my own cold brew at home most of the time.

I don’t know the history of the term itself, but the brewing method is hundreds of years old. I know the Japanese consider it to be their traditional method.
