Some ole baw from Houma told my brother in law they throw a sack of oysters in when they boil crawfish. We are having a big boil at my parents house tomorrow so BIL went and bought a sack of oysters. None of us have ever heard of this before. So my questions...do people really do this or were they just fricking with him? And if you do it, at what point do you throw them in and how long do you cook them?

It's intriguing to me. I don't see how it can be bad as I love oysters. Just looking for a little guidance

I put shucked oysters in a mesh basket and give them a minute or so in the pot. They are awesome.

I'm assuming. Our plan is to throw them in when we are done boiling everything else. We just don't know how long to boil them.

And for the guy who said he would rather then raw... We are gonna eat at least half of them raw as an appetizer. We just want to try something different with the rest of them

The guy told him they put them in before they shuck them. After steaming or boiling they are easier to open and come out great. His words, not mine

The oysters like a clam bake I would imagine pop open when you boil them similar to pasteurized oysters with the rubber bands on them. Shouldn't even have to pop the hinge
