Some of you may have seen my post on the OB about my fishing trip last week. I cooked the last of the fish I didn't vac seal and freeze last night. Barrelfish, cauliflower rice and Italian green beans. This was the first trip I've ever caught or eaten Barrelfish and I think it may be the best fish I've ever eaten.

Nice. Barrelfish is a fantastic treat. Like a cross between grouper and lobster.

How deep did y'all catch them? 1,000' + I'm guessing.

Even better than Chilean Seabass? Yeah I need to try this. That looks killer, and it's perfectly flaky

Yeah, it was 1150'ish.
First time I've ever done any deep dropping. We only caught 2 Barrelfish and about 5 Tilefish, but the Snowy Grouper bite was on fire. I think we had 14 Snowy's up to 40 lbs.

nice. I just build a rod for a electric this past season. Only took it one trip. we were fishing in 400-500' and caught a nice yellowedge on the first drop. then nothing. What level yall catch the Tiles? arent they only in 400-600'?

400' is a pretty shallow for Tiles, though you can probably catch a few at that depth. We catch most Tiles in 700'-900'. Off the eat coast they catch them twice that deep.

We caught a Blue Line in 750' and 4 Goldens in 900'Caught Snowies from 750' all the way to 1100'. No yellowedges were caught.

ETA: The Barrelfish is fantastic but this is my first time having Snowy Grouper as well and it is also absolutley delicious. I'm done tuna fishing for a while and will be concentrating on all these good groceries in the future
