MD, thanks for the posts. My parents grew up in Tensas parish, alot of what you do overlaps what I grew up on.

My wife is from South LA and we have adapted almost all of our cooking to those type dishes. And that is not a bad thing.

Your threads make me miss enough of my childhood dishes enough to cook them, and guess what, it turns out my coonass wife has begun to love mustard greens!!

THanks for the posts.

Thanks for the good words.

I just post the stuff I like to eat. Not that I don't enjoy four star dining. There just isn't any stars (at any level) dining available here. Gives us something to do when we go to NOLA.

My favorite cake, well that and carrot cake. As a current baby food purchaser, the best you will find is banana, plum and grape combo or just plum and Apple. Haven't seen plum by itself.

Way back when it was Plum with Tapioca.

Then they took it off the market for some reason.

Made this cake yesterday. Couldn't find plum so I used prune. Very simple to make.

Cut the sugar amount in half and added some Irish whiskey. Everyone liked it.

Thanks MD.

I bet that was good. We have added rum before with good results. Bailey's Irish Cream too, also good.

I need to try Irish Whiskey. Only problem is it drinks good with no cake added.

Just put this in the oven for a friend coming over for dinner tonight (his birthday is Wednesday). In true southern tradition I used the ingredients on hand instead of going to the store. Baby food was replaced with regular applesauce, cloves replaced with allspice and pecans replaced with walnuts. I will report back.
