Bun bo hue or bahn mi bo kho are my shite....pho is for beginners.
I disagree. Three completely different dishes. Sounds like something a hipster would say because of pho's popularity.

I really need to get over to Hong Kong market
They are opening an Asian market in Metairie in the old Chinese buffet place around the corner from whole foods. I'm hoping it's just as good as Hong Kong. I'll be happy if they just have the same bakery and Banh mi station.

Sorry you haven't lost your asian soup training wheels yet, Wise.

The Ramen in Japan is ridiculously good, most Americans have no clue.

So a hipster is someone who chooses things that are not popular? I thought they went for the pop items. Dang I gotta keep up.
I don't think I have ever had Tom Yum.
But oh how I love Tom Ka Gai. That stuff is maybe the best thing in the world.

Glad I could help. And Offshore has a valid point especially with the bun bo hue. It just was a good opportunity to use hipster, although I still do disagree.
With the weather outside it's looking like a soup for lunch kinda of day.

Agree. Had Kim Anh's yesterday but may do it again. Feels like a beef coconut curry kinda day. Btw, took your advice and subbed noodles for veggies. Brilliant move.

Best broth I ever tasted was in a bowl of Tom Yum from a street vendor in Chiangmai Mai. Was a little mom and pop stand that we made sure to visit again before we left.

Anyone experienced in making tom yum gai? I think I am going to try cooking it for the first time tonight.

I'm new to Thai food but had some good Tom Yum at Sawasdee in Mandeville on Hwy 22. Also had a curry dish from there that was good but that's a different thread.

I've tried and it was a disaster (comparing it to Kanomwan's recipe).

I apologize if I have asked you this before.

No, but I have heard good things about it. I honestly rarely eat thai at restaurants because it is so quick and easy to prepare at home.

How was it a disaster? It seems like a pretty simple dish to prepare.

Best Thai restaurant I've been too.
I usually get one of the curry dishes, but the Drunken Noodles are always a hit.
It's a semi dumpy location at the corner of HM and Eisenhower.

Really? Seems that the flavors are very complex.

I was comparing it to the dish at Kanomwan (in Houston). I've spent time in Thailand and Singapore and tried probably 20 different recipes from various restaurants and nothing comes close. The batch I made as OK, just paled in comparison.
