Are restaurant owners adjusting pay for waitstaff during this time?

I dined last weekend at one of my ‘pre covid19’ regular spots. I left the waiter a rather large tip (double the amount of the bill) on the credit card slip. The waiter came back to the table and informed me that the restaurant is currently taking all tips. I assume that in order to get staff willing to come into work that the owners must have put the waitstaff on a salary that would make it attractive to come to work. Seemed a little odd and now I’m curious if that is a standard practice across the industry?

A few places I've read about are taking all tips and bundling them together to be dispersed evenly among the staff.
Good way to make sure one doesn't get a shitty table but sucks if you've had excellent service and want to be generous to that particular person.

I have never heard this but I know a couple of places I go to are doing fully shared tips at this time including the bartender. My sister in law is a bartender and a local spot in Kingwood, Tx with a bunch of regulars who tip her well. She has to wait on the bar and 3 tables close to the bar as well as make the whole waitstaffs drinks. So it really pisses her off. Should have mad about $300 on a Monday night last week but barely walked out with $100.

Ah, that makes sense. I just Xed out the tip line on the CC receipt and slipped the waiter some cash. Up to him how he handled it from there.

They are not where I am at. We are working reduced hours with less tables with less people coming in. We are still doing the same before all of this happened.
Where I’m at, we qualified for PPP so that is helping us a little for those who qualified.

Ate at a place that was accepting no tips. I assume they had increased their hourly wage with a PPP loan to insure they get paid fairly if business is slow
