I’m in the market for a 15 gallon pot and see that they have a 17 gallon for about half the price of everyone else’s 15 gallon. I was wondering if they are decent quality or they are that cheap for a reason..

I would check the weight / thickness against an established brand. Thicker equals better heat distribution.
My go-to is Krazy Kajun. Buy once, cry once kind of thing. I have had mine for 25 years.

All of the new ones have a really rough cooking surface. I would recommend finding an old one. They are sold in a lot of antique stores, they cost more but they are much better. You can use a flap disc with a grinder and use finer and finer grits and you can get the new ones really smooth

I’ve seen people do this and it has crossed my mind. Are there any cons to doing this? I feel like a lot of people would frown on doing that
