The keurag coffee is garbage, and it's so wasteful with all that plastic trash, hot water going through plastic can't be good for you.

Serves a purpose at the office. Starbucks Sumatra.
It isn't perfect, but there's a place in my life for it. Extra bold helps.

i recently bought a case of some type of san francisco bay coffee from amazon for my wife to try because it was cheaper
it fits in the keurig because it has a plastic rim, but its not a full plastic cup, beneath the rim is a filter "sack" with the grounds inside
its different than the k-cups for sure, and the coffee is decent...we only tried one flavor though
found a pic:

Those look safer than the plastic ones

I have a Kuerig VUE coffee maker my son bought for me for Fathers day last year. The VUE coffee is very hard to find locally and there is not a lot of choices like with the K-cups. I useually have to by coffee for this machine directly from Kuerig. The Starbucks offerings for the VUE machine is not bad nither is the the Newmans brand.

My favorite is Community Dark Roast or they have one I just found the other day, Colombian blend. It is a dark and medium roast combined.
I've tried the sampler packs from Green Mountain and I wasn't that impressed. Although, I'm not a very big coffee conisour. I kind of like the basics.
FYI : for new users, make sure to read the box. The teas and latte type flavors tell you to run a cleaning cycle after making your drink. If you have well water, you may want to buy gallon jugs of water and use that instead, well water causes problems over time.

isn't that what the inside of all the k-cups look like? a little pouch/filter.

You do realize that PVC piping may deliver the water inside your house...bottled water (like Kentwood, Dasani, etc) is shipped in unairconditioned trucks in the dead of summer, and stored in uncooled warehouses before it is delivered? The average plastic bottle of water spends far more time "hot" and in contact with its contents than the 30-second heated pourover of a a k-cup.
Re: wasteful, sure it is. but no more wasteful than any other packaging. Bottled water, plastic-wrapped individual serving size snacks, Clif bars, etc. Perhaps reducing your packaging consumption in another area can offset the impact of k-cup packaging.

i don't buy bottle water, i don't eat plastic wrapped snacks unless they use recycled paper. k cups are 30 seconds of use and then just a waste. and pvc is not the same plastic as a keurag

honestly, the original Keurig is much better for the average consumer than the VUE
keurig's whole reason for creating the VUE was because the patents on K-cups were running out, and 3rd parties could start making their own K-cups
keurig made most of their money selling coffee, not coffee makers.....once the patents were running out, they hurried to change it up so they could renew their monopoly, but the VUE system hasn't caught on as intended
i was happy to replace our Kcup machine with another Kcup machine because the price of the cups has come down a bit with all of the new competition

Keurigs are awesome. People who tell you otherwise are being nitpicky as hell. It's a fantastic invention. The Community Coffee K-cups are great and the Starbucks Pike Place is good as well.

Thanks for the definitive answer. I'll throw away my french press and fresh coffee beans and bow down to the "awesomeness" of spending more money for a poorer quality product in the name of convenience.

Has anyone ever experienced an acrid, urine smell coming from their Keurig when brewing? Don't know if its the filter, the water or what. It's pungent but does not seem to affect the coffee's flavor.

do you clean it out ever?

I only do k-cups at work...but my coffee geek better half asked for a Nespresso as a birthday present. We used one on vacation, and he quickly became enamored with the uber-convenient espresso. Is it world class? No, but the Nespresso pods yield a better than coffeeshop average espresso, and the machine gives you the option of a ristretto, regular, or luongo pull. No tamping, grinding, cleanup, etc.
Basically, Nespresso allows him to be semi-conscious and still get a decent espresso.

Like many other things, they serve a purpose. I'm sure there are times even you have to settle for a quick cup of coffee rather than using your press. No one claimed it yielded a superior product.
