All right, which of you Baton Rougeans is "OP" in this thread?

slickdeals.net: .69 or .99 cent per pound Ground Beef at Albertsons !

That thread is pre-Katrina, so this little urban legend has been going on a while.

I really hope this is some TD joke that i'm not in on

1/3 lb = 151 grams

so you're claiming the beef was half sodium?

ground beef nutritional info

based on the nutritional info ground beef should have about 98 mg of sodium per 1/3lb (will vary based on cut and fat content).

mg not grams

what kind of cuts do you normally grind ?

80/20 Chuck Roast is the traditional and easiest to do. Gives you a very juicy burger.

But these days, I'm into mixing in different cuts. Right now I do a combo of brisket, chuck roast, and sirloin. I find this gives you a beefier taste but retains the juiciness of chuck. The trick is to keep everything cold so the fat doesn't melt. I keep my grinder in the freezer.

I worked at albertsons when i was in college and i was given the task of marking the meat products down to 1.99 or .99 depending how soon they would go bad. They stickers were not hidden anywhere or anything. Lets just say i ate well when i worked there.

I doubt you mean 70 grams as salt is listed in mgs and 70 is almost nothing. RDA is 2400 a day unless middle aged or with blood pressure or other health issues in which case 1500 is RDA.

Might be mgs but it's the same listing as all products. 70 is not nothing if all my other food is listed as 100 mg or 200 mg. I assumed it was zero.

There is no such thing as Albertson's pricing beef at 99 cents in Shreveport. Maybe cows in Baton Rouge are cheaper.

I know. Salt is also in fresh water. But I'm talking about 'added'. First person responded said it was added.

Today I bought some more and checked the label. There is already 70 grams of salt per 1/3 pound patty. I always assumed that the only ingredient in ground beef was ground beef.

You apparently don't know. You thought it was added and you don't know the difference between mg and g. Plus you need sodium in your diet to live.

This whole thread is just full of retarded.

If you put corn and grass in a field and a cow next to both the cow would naturally go for the grass first, not the corn

Says the guy who has never had a deer corn feeder knocked over by a cow who first pushed through a barbed wire fence to get to it despite having acres of grass to eat.

So, you're not good at reading are you?
I just said it was mg. But is the mg added? One poster said yes and another said no. Try to pay attention.
You don't need added sodium to live. The problem is too much sodium.

hahahahahahahaha Read your own thread Forest. It has all the info you need to understand the "complex" situation you have run into.

Now don't hurt yourself trying to understand this ok.

1) As pointed out by many on this thread sodium is naturally occurring in beef, so other board opinions don't really matter too much do they? It's called food science. They study all kinds of things that have to do with food and diet.

2)Your inability to read and understand food labels makes me question your ability to function in day to day life. Food labels give you a measured quantity of certain nutrition levels in the food and the corresponding percentage of your recommended intake for a balanced 2,000 calorie daily diet. Some items appear as grams, and some as milligrams. It takes 1,000 milligrams, also know as (mg), to equal 1 gram (g).

3) Sodium is an essential mineral or micronutrient which along with potassium helps to regulate the body's fluid balance.

2,400 milligrams is the recommended daily amount. Whether that be from natural occurring sources or added sodium from table salt, kosher salt, rock salt, etc ......

Also, aren't cows provided with salt licks? Hence sodium in cow meat.
