Advice/suggestions to how to mount a removable rotisserie to use over my smokers firebox.

I would like to be able to put on/remove the rotisserie when I am not using the pit to rotisserie Boston butts. This is a picture of my smoker. It’s a tank, weighs about 550 lb all 3/8” iron.
I would like to be able to close lid while rotisserie is running. The firebox is 24” left to right.
Was looking at something like this
Any advice on if this would work or what’s the best way to set this mod up would be appreciated.

I have that same rotisserie and it's a beast. It'll take some work on your part but it should work.

Would this work if simply drill a hole through and through the firebox like pictured?
Then cut the rod shorter and have the rod just rest in the hole of the left side of the firebox?
Then obviously the motor would be mounted on the outside of the firebox to the right

How necessary is the counterweight and could it be out inside the firebox?

I would think if you mounted over the firebox and closed the lid you would roast the outside of that chicken pretty quick. I think it's possible but I would think it would be best to have the lid open.

We had a guy that we tailgated with that would do this every weekend. He would put it in one of the Ronco rotisseries and let it go from breakfast until we ate.

Does anyone know if the counterweight is necessary or if it could be placed inside the firebox in my case?

Agree. Seems like a tight space.

Does anyone have experience with Rotisserie with the flame/ heat coming from the bottom? Most rotisserie commercially done the heat is at the rear so the fat/ drippings can collect. I love rotissirie but this has always been a concern to have the fat fall onto the flame constantly?
That space is tight OP, I'm sure you could get it done. Use some wood pieces that are replaceable. Wood should get hot but won't catch on fire.

I have a built in grill in my outdoor kitchen with a rotisserie. It uses infrared heat on the back wall of the grill to heat the meat.
The idea of a rotisserie is cool, you will use it a couple of times and then realize its easier to just grill/smoke whatever you want to cook. It is a pain to prep the meat for rotisserie style cooking, as well as the headache of setting up/taking down the equipment.
Just my $.02
