So the KJ's have upgraded again. I'm sorry, but KJ's innovation and constant upgrading is pushing them passed the egg. Sure you could probably get the same results, but all the new toys on them are pretty cool. Here are some of the new accessories that also fit into the Classic Joe II, which is what i have.

SloRoller

quote:

The first of its kind, the revolutionary SloRoller leverages patented, Harvard science that transforms a Kamado Joe® into one of the world’s most optimal smokers.

quote:

By distributing smoke and heat in rolling, recirculating waves, the SloRoller surrounds food in clouds of delicious smoke while evenly distributing heat—resulting in enhanced flavor and significantly reduced hot spots.

quote:

1 More flavor from the same amount of fuel
2 Engineered for low-and-slow cooks up to 500F
3 Up to 20 times more smoke circulation
4 Reduced hot spots for even heat distribution
5 Maximizes wood-fired flavor
6 Increases overall temperature accuracy inside grill
7 Increases airflow for a cleaner burn

DoJoe

quote:

One of our latest innovations, the durable cast-aluminum DoJoe transforms your Kamado Joe® into a best-in-class pizza oven.

quote:

Ideal for beginners and expert chefs alike, the distinctive wedge shape of the DoJoe makes maintaining steady temperatures ranging from 400F to 700F effortless—even over the course of hours—while also allowing grillers to easily see and monitor their pizza or other baked goods as they cook. Dedicated supports for the Kamado Joe® Heat Deflectors and Kamado Joe® Pizza Stone ensure optimum distances between, guaranteeing perfect crust and crisp toppings. For the ultimate pizza cooking experience, we also recommend using the Kamado Joe® Pizza Peel and Pizza Cutter accessories.

iKamand

I know this tech isn't knew, but glad they have a proprietary one.

quote:

The iKamand makes the art of low-and-slow BBQ easy—turning even the newest kamado griller into an instant pit master.

quote:

Simply attach our breakthrough smart device to the bottom vent of your charcoal grill, and total control over heat, smoke, and target temperature is in your hands. Just sit back, grab a cold one, and enjoy juicy, flavor-filled food with little effort. Start your grill, walk away, and monitor your cook on the go—you’ll always maintain full control through the iKamand app, no matter where you are.

And here's some info on the new Joe's.

Looks like the new KJ's come with the sloroller, a charcoal basket (like the kick ash basket), and a new support frame.

FWIW, i make pizza just fine, but it's a neat little accessory to have. Same with the Sloroller, the heat deflector plates are adequate to make good smoked meat, but it's a cool new toy i'll be willing to throw my money at.

I think KJ has been ahead of BGE for a while now. The multi-piece firebox and revamped top vent showed that they are continually looking to improve while BGE remains same.

all of those things you can have via aftermarket products for the egg and for the primo. Just because KJ is taking those ideas and making there own version, doesnt mean they are passing everyone. They are ceramic grills...all of the top brads are on par with each other.

Does using a drip pan negate the Sloroller?

Agreed it may be a difference of aftermarket add on and stuff that comes with it. All of them are great just depends what you want. I can get kJ and primo haven’t looked into eggs. But can save y’all some jack on any of the pits and accessories.

I have promo xl’s and some of my friends do...some have eggs...some have KJ...they all cook fantastic

I know that, but they KJ is actually making it to fit the grills.

Egg's still have the felt gaskets. KJ's use oven gaskets. I know you can "just replace it", but green egg hasn't updated their stuff for many years now. KJ, is actively doing so. FWIW, i don't know much about primo's or the other ceramics.

I think KJ is edging out egg just with their constant updates. Granted, you can still cook everything just the same, and yes, you can buy aftermarket parts for egg, but it's nice knowing that KJ is examining their own product, and seeing where they can improve, and actually doing so.

The leap from the KJ one to the KJ 2 was huge. Oven gasket, divided firebox, new dampers, spring assist lid. It's what swayed me to go with the KJ over the Egg.
