I won't dispute that, but many collisions and allisions are not. Obviously it's hard to tag a bridge and not have someone notice.

Guys ... the bridge was hit FAR before it was reported to the news. The bridge was being inspected by our bridge maintenance crews before the roadway was closed. They don't need to inspect the entire bridge .. only the impacted and potentially affected areas of the bridge. This does not take that long, but takes far longer than 4 minutes my friends. I assure you it was a thorough job as always. All parishes have crews on call 24 hours a day for quick responses to these types of issues.

You want to stay with that 99%?

You would think so. Well at least the people on the boat.

What are you hinting at? Stop being so mysterious. Even when tugs hit remotely located, but valuable fixed objects the USCG will track AIS to find the offender. Increasing the likelihood of capture reduces the likelihood of a failure to report.

Bingo, not to mention the owner of the barge will notice and want answers to how it happen, barges dont get banged up and the the owner not find out what happen or at least fire someone's arse for it
LSUdad doesnt know wtf he's talking about

I got a call from a friend yesterday and we talked about this, he said the USCG can't put a number on how often things that should be reported and are not. In isolated waterways, damages are done/ spills/ illegal dumping/ etc. are not reported. With closer monitoring cameras, water sampling and newer equipment, they have a better handle on this. Just like the DEQ's use of the "Hawk." Many times reports are turned in by someone other than the person/persons doing the act. Disgruntle employees many times or someone looking for a reward. You might remember hazardous waste being dumped less than a mile from downtown BTR into the Mississippi River (A fueling company), or when PCBs were found in Capitol Lake and Devils Swamp.
Like I said, many companies have added over the years cameras and night vision cameras, for records and use if needed. Cutbacks on manpower have added this option.
USCG are still finding tank slops, damage done by vessels. Not as much now, but still being done.

So the whole closing of the bridge was just a PR move?

Did you miss the part where I specifically said when a bridge is involved????
I'm very much aware that shite happens on the waterways that would make the general public sick if they actaully knew what was going on......but lets stay on track here, we are talking about when bridges get hit, not when a push boat is dumping his shite tank while going downriver.

I know, but to add, he said he wish any and all parts of the operations would have a 99% notification rating.

Chad ... I was merely saying that inspections were in place early in the process... well before it was reported to the public that the barges actually hit the bridge.
Read what I was responding to before making a silly comment such as that. Roadways when closed are for safety reasons....not for political gain or other assumed agenda as you seem to be implying. I was making a point of how the roadway was opened so quickly .. our crews were addressing the bridge inspection early on so that IT COULD be opened in a timely manner.
