You understand it would actually be more catastrophic if they blew a BR or NOLA levee.

I don't think so. But I guess that is debatable.

No concern whatsoever regarding the levees. It'd be catastrophic if they targeted the Morganza spillway though.

The real threat (if there was one) would be if someone blew up the ORCS. That's where the river has been wanting to go.

Were some a-hole to accomplish this, it would severely screw a sizeable chunk of the economy for a very long time (much longer than the collapse of the twin towers did).

I don't think it's been reported enough to show up on the radar of anyone or group that would have the means and will to do it.

I'm glad to hear the military is patrolling the levees. That at least says they have thought about it before i did.

Well if I were wrong, wouldn't they be leaving the Morganza Spillway closed?

The Morganza is designed to relieve pressure on the levees downstream. If the Corps had to make a choice between losing the river or flooding New Orleans, I am pretty sure they would choose flooding.

I've been worried about that for a long time...them parking a Ryder truck by the NOLA levees or something along those lines.

I've never thought about them hitting ORCS, but I hope the government has a contingency plan to deal with ORCS failing, terrorist attack or natural. Sadly, nothing I've seen tells me they're smart enough to handle that situation.

On the upside, it'd spur phenomenal growth for Morgan City. Decisions, decisions.

It is certainly not irreversible.

If China can build Three Gorges Dam then it is certainly possible to get the river under control again.

The question is would the federal government and oil companies be willing to put up the money to do it ?

Doh! Yeah, this is what I remember now, I got them mixed up. Thanks for pointing it out.
