Once Morganza is opened the U will stand for under water.
Seriously. Unless a levee breach OK.

Saw on WAFB last night that there were concerns bc of the bend in the river. They stated that w the water being so high and large vessels having to make those turns, there could have been over topping at Manchac Pt, which is right by UC. They are, according to WAFB, working on that spot right now. They are making the levee two feet higher for two miles of that stretch. We aren't hearing any news. Most people out here aren't that concerned. They should be. A breach would be devastating.
Let's hope it holds.

My advice is to drive there and look. The problems are occurring from the BREC park to the burned down Conrad Cottage at the peak of the point. There are literally sandboils leaking in the middle of River Road by the white fence at the BREC Park. DPW is fighting a war right there in plain view.

what BREC park is by the UClub?
And if there was a breach in the levee in anywhere between Riverbend and St. Gabriel, wouldn't it be devastating for the majority of the Baton Rouge residents living south/west of Highland Road in the floodplain?

A breach would be devastating anywhere it happens. A new lake would be formed at the breach.
I haven't heard how many feet the Morganza spillway will lower the river in Baton Rouge. Just a few feet or plenty?

I think Morganza opening will lower the crest 2 feet at BR...at least that's what I read.

Right about 2 feet which lowers the pressure on the levees substantially.
I hope the DPW updates us on the "war" they are fighting on river road if it is really that bad.

If UClub is in a flood plain then they probably do. If it is not most people do not have flood insurance if they do not have to.

If i have lived close to the miss river, I think I would opt for the flood insurance.
