Gimp?

My photoshop decided it wasn't going to work without a key anymore. I have had Gimp for a while. Tried to use it for the last hour and felt like ripping my hair out. There is just no way. To change the color of clothes I have to use that anchor/outline tool and then adjust the colors?
Every time I use that tool and then select colors, my selection disappears. I just wanted to do a quick ten minute fark, and change my avatar up to a Hornets theme, but I have to use Gimp or re-load PS.
Does anyone else use Gimp, and what is your opinion of it compared to PS?
sorry, not a Fark, but I figured this board would understand.

IMO,
You can only compare GIMP with PS when you look at the layering abilities and similar style tools.
For a free program, I'm freaking ecstatic that it's available since I had to update my design portfolio recently and my last copy of PS went out the window with the crack-bastard that stole my alienware laptop...
When it comes to the actual abilities and time it takes to do "simple" tasks (like the ones available in PS), I can feel your frustration.
click the tools window....
click the tool....
click the layer window....
click the layer....
click the image...
click the tool...shite, i only clicked the image window...
click the image...

click the window...
...shite, i only clicked the tool window...
(i do like how easy the GIMP frame-by-frame animations work, i never used that ability in PS)
If it's a "time" thing... you may want to reload PS.

FWIW I have PS and Gimp but only use Gimp. I got so used to it I am much better with it than PS and IMO I can hang with anyone on this board when it comes to design stuff/farks. I downloaded some script-fu's for it that enhanced what it can do though. Go to gimptalk.com and you can learn all you need to know.
