You use AE, right? Did you just frick around with it until you got the hang of it, or did you find some decent tutorials? So far I haven't found anything useful on youtube.

I agree that the amount and quality of the AE tutorials on Youtube is far less than there are of Photoshop. Do you have a torrent client? If so the best complete set of how tos for AE that I have found is a set from Lynda.com. Go to The Pirate Bay and search for Lynda.com After Effects CS5 Essentials. You will be pleased I believe. Another good site with lots of free effects tutorials VideoCopilot.net

I just started to learn After Effects yesterday. Although I have a long way to go, this guy's tutorials did a good job of giving me a basic understanding how everything works.

A good tutorial to get you started

is AE easier to use for animated GIF's than Gimp? If that's a really stupid question, just say so. I'm still a rookie farker, LOL

I don't find GIMP hard to make GIFs with, just damn tedious. Wish you could select layers you wish to merge a single layer to, instead of only having merge all visible layers. (unless they already have that somewhere and I just don't know about it. )

I'm not sure; I've never used GIMP but I doubt it. AE is pretty complex, but if you look at gifs created with it, like TNGOP's, the results are pretty stellar.
