They won't even give Gibbs one entire drive. He comes in for one play where it's painfully obvious he's getting the ball, the play ends up sucking because the defense knows it's coming, then Monty comes back out for 10 touches in a row.
34 touches compared to 12. Even when the game was out of reach and they're running clock, it's still all Monty.
Monty averaging 3.8ypc on the season. Gibbs at 4.59. They scheme passing plays to get Monty in space, while they only pass to Gibbs behind the LOS with a LB on top of him.
The usage is mind boggling.

Here’s the reality
Monty is a veteran and is a bruiser. He beats down a defense over the course of a game. More compact, 25lbs heavier than Gibbs.
In clock management, positive game scripts they’ll likely keep going to Montgomery. If they get behind, they’ll likely lean on Gibbs’ explosiveness and utilize him in the passing game.
Swift & Williams 2.0.
The only difference this year is the Lions look damn good. Might be in positive game scripts more than anyone expected.

Yep. And Campbell was around the Saints in 2017 when we heavily leaned on the run with Ingram and Kamara and people bitched then too that the Saints didn’t use Kamara enough. We used him more than the Lions use Gibbs, but Kamara was hyper efficient with his touches. Gibbs hasn’t been bad with his touches but he was going to have to be really really efficient in order to return a 3rd round value for him
Campbell was always going to use Monty a lot the way we used Ingram. And advanced analytics in fantasy knows that YPC doesn’t tell the full story of a RB’s efficiency. Bottom line, Monty, coming off injury, looked damn good last night. 113 of his 121 rushing yards came AFTER contact.

Gibbs was such a terrible IRL pick, why the hell would you draft a RB 12th overall to use him like this? Bijan at 8 I can understand. That said Detroit still absolutely crushed this draft.
I have zero shares of Gibbs, I thought there was much better value around his ADP.

Oh yeah I agree, Monty looked better than 3.8 ypc. But they have a very good offensive line, so anybody looks good back there, i.e., Jamaal Williams last year.
I'm not surprised Monty is getting the heavy workload, goalline, etc. I'm surprised at the split being 3-1. Or that they never Gibbs a chance to get into a groove being the guy for a whole drive.
And while it makes sense for Monty to be the grind out the clock guy, it still seems crazy to be giving him carries into the 30s when the game is well-decided. Seems a good time to rest him and let your high draft capital rookie get some experience while there's room for error.
They ran the ball 43 times in a blow out and Gibbs only got 8 carries. I don't expect Gibbs to ever have 30+ carries, but if he can't get more usage than that, then I'm concerned.
And like I said, it's not just the split, but it's the telegraphing when they're going to use Gibbs. If he came into the game, he usually got the ball, then got pulled to the sideline right after. He's never going to have Kamara-like efficiency with that usage.

I gotta find a replacement since Dan Campbell loves 3.5 yards per carry.
It's been EXTREMELY effective over the second half of last season into this one. They're getting leads and then absolutely killing the game off. I think GB had the ball for maybe 3 mins in the 4th quarter in a game they were chasing.
As this line gets healthier it's going to be more and more of this dominance especially if the get ahead early.
I think they either want to keep Gibbs very fresh for late season/playoffs or he just doesn't get the nuances of their offense very well.

Dude has potential for 20+ TDs in this offense if he stays healthy.
