The Ridley/White handcuff is looking good

quote:

Fourth-round RB James White got first-team carries Wednesday while most of Stevan Ridley's reps came with the second unit. It's just one day of practice, but it carries a little more weight since it was a joint 11-on-11 session versus the Eagles. It confirms that the Patriots want to get a look at White against first-stringers even if Ridley is the starter. As a young back impressing in his first camp, White should at least be on watch lists. He's directly behind both big back Ridley and first-string passing back Shane Vereen.

Moreno was a big part of the Dolphins' passing game at practice

Moreno was a big part of the Dolphins' passing game at practice Thursday, according to the Palm Beach Post, with the report adding that the running back saw some first-team reps with the team's offense.

Spin: While coach Joe Phiblin didn't say whether or not Moreno will play Saturday against the Bucs, that's a possibility. "He's looking better," Philbin said of Moreno, who is bouncing back from a June knee scope. "I think he's looking more comfortable with the offense and the reps and so forth. We're going to watch the tape and we'll see." In Moreno's recent absence, he lost some ground to Lamar Miller in the team's starting running back equation, but assuming no setbacks, there's still time for Moreno to make his case for the assignment in advance of Week 1.

Watching Patriots practice, The MMQB's Greg Bedard observed Rob Gronkowski (knee) "favoring his right knee," and running with a "decent but not terrible limp."

The former Pats beat writer believes Gronk is "far from a lock" to suit up for Week 1. After a sunny summer of updates, the Gronk news has grown a bit more pessimistic this week, but ESPN's Adam Schefter reported Thursday there's still "optimism" around his Week 1 status. This being the Pats, things will surely come down to the wire. It's possible we won't know Gronk's status until the opening day inactives are announced

I'll trust the reporters that watch him every day over one dude that dropped in for a walk through practice
