Arizona DEF
quote:

One NFL scout told FOX Sports Arizona rookie DB Tyrann Mathieu is already "pound-for-pound" the Cardinals' best football player.
An offensive assistant added that "No. 32 (Mathieu's number) is going to change the team." Per beat writer Ron Wolfley, Mathieu's quick development has been "nothing short of stunning," and he's done it while learning four positions: Outside corner, slot corner, safety, and special teamer. Mathieu is truly a stud, and will make himself hard for the Cardinals to keep off the field.

offense should keep the DEF off the field more....no crabtree, no Harvin, no sjax....division opponents weaker

Jordy Nelson underwent knee surgery Monday and he will be out for the rest of training camp.

should fall, like him, but nervous now

Julio Jones (hamstrings) will not play in Thursday's preseason opener.
Jones is feeling a little tightness in both of his hammys. He'll be held out as a precaution.

The Times-Picayune says that if this were Mark Ingram's rookie training camp, "the buzz would probably be through the roof by now."

don't do it

quote:

Eddie Lacy is getting the first rep in every running back drill Tuesday.
The Packers coaches are rewarding Lacy for his standout performance at Saturday's intra-squad scrimmage. As beat writer Rob Demovsky says, the second-round rookie will "probably be the starting running back." If Lacy indeed goes on to lock up all the early-down duties, he'll be a value pick in the middle rounds of fantasy drafts. The Packers gave Cedric Benson 14.2 carries per game last year before a foot injury ended his season. Lacy is far more talented and explosive than Benson. He'll also get all the goal-line chances in an offense that will be in the red zone often.

Jordy Nelson underwent knee surgery Monday and he will be out 4-6 weeks.

The Packers are "hopeful" that Nelson will be back for Week 1. Considering that's just four weeks away, the surgery was likely some kind of scope or MCL repair. Nelson did miss four games last year and was limited in a handful of others, but that was due to hamstring and ankle issues. He hasn't had a knee problem since 2009. Regardless, Nelson now appears highly unlikely to hit the ground running even if he does suit up against the Niners on Sept. 8. Randall Cobb, James Jones and Jermichael Finley all get a boost while Jarrett Boykin gets a shot to run with the starters.

@ArmandoSalguero: Lamar Miller being taken off the field limping.

@OmarKelly: Just watched Lamar Miller get steam rolled by a linebacker. He's limping off the field. Clearly hurt.

Danario Alexander tweaked his right knee in Tuesday's practice.
We typically avoid posting about training camp injuries before it's clear they're a concern, but any knee ailment is a concern for the famously-brittle DX. It's Alexander's left knee that's given him the most trouble — aka, five surgeries — but it's still not a positive development. It's quite possible today's news won't amount to anything, but it serves as a timely reminder of Alexander's inability to stay healthy.

The Falcons have "positioned Steven Jackson all over the line of scrimmage" in training camp practices.
Jackson has been lining up out wide, in the slot, and in his traditional spot in the backfield, and he believes the offense is trying to get him one-on-one with linebackers as much as possible. "It reminds me of my younger years in St. Louis when I was used more as a receiver out of the backfield," Jackson said. "It allows me to use more tools in the shed that I have and possess." The Falcons couldn't do any of this with Michael Turner, and Jackson is shaping up as a borderline RB1 with slightly more value in PPR formats.

great value

Chris Mortensen reported on NFL Insiders Wednesday the Ravens are considering "shifting" Ray Rice out to wide receiver in some packages to help replace Dennis Pitta's production.
"They love Bernard Pierce," Mort emphasized. "There's some thought of shifting Ray Rice out to receiver" in certain groupings. Rice isn't changing positions, but it's a wrinkle OC Jim Caldwell needs to explore due to Baltimore's sudden lack of short to intermediate receiving options. Rice would likely play slot receiver as opposed to outside. Pierce's snaps are going to rise significantly.

I'm sure that the Ravens are going to give their best asset significantly less touches......

And really Rice as a receiver is stupid because of his size.

Bills to feed C.J. Spiller 'until he throws up'
by Larry Hartstein | CBSSports.com
(12:27 pm ET) New Bills offensive coordinator Nathaniel Hackett told radio station WGR that C.J. Spiller will get the ball "until he throws up."
"It's real simple," Hackett said, according to the Buffalo News. "We're going to give him the ball until he throws up. So he's either got to tap out or throw up on the field. Let's just put it that way."

Spiller averaged 12.9 carries and 2.7 receptions last season. Hackett said he wasn't worried about revealing his plans, which seem sure to boost those numbers.

"It doesn't matter," he said. "You can say that because any team that has ever watched him should, I mean ... You've got to stop C.J."
