He hits the ball hard, Id say that's more to do with the high babip

His infield hit rate isn't out of the ordinary

I'm sure his speed has a lot to do with his BABIP.

That's why I'm not too worried about Altuve's high BABIP, also helps that he only struck out 7.5% of ABs last season, so the ball is in play a lot.

Yeah his GBs have gone down and his LD rate has gone up.

I agree. He may "drop" down to .310, but he'll get 600 ABs with plenty of the unsexy numbers.

I don't think anyone in this league forgot that.

Tons of owners passed him around in TDBL like a hot potato hoping he'd pop

With that in mind, "baseball in the DR" is a nice baseball documentary. It shows Gomez in his teen years trying to get signed

Yeah, good watch. It doesn't help that those players come out of the DR as hackers and need to learn a new plate approach once they get stateside. It sometimes takes awhile.

I would've taken Gomez at 18

like i said, with 20 teams its hard to really argue with it.

Ideally tho, not a guy id pair with a minor leaguer with my 2nd pick. But that is just me. Then looks even worse if Kipnis doesnt rebound(3rd Rd pick)

what if Kipnis was my fourth round pick?

Because he essentially was knowing Gyno (Machado), Knat (Donaldson) and Earl weren't taking Longo.

I just tried trading Altuve to LouT for Kipnis, but no dice.

I think Kipnis player injured last year. Thumb or hand or sonething that would nag a hitter

I liked MWG first 4 picks actually

I do see your point though

I was asking for a pick as well, but he declined before we even got into pick discussion.

It's close with Altuve and Kipnis for me. I am a fan.

If I had not gotten Altuve in round 2 I would have very likely taken Bogaerts there and then hoped for Kipnis in round 3.

Naw I sold Kipnis quick last year before his demise

He did help me win a title in 2013

You know I like dozier and I expect Kipnis to be better than him going forward

I like Altuve. I was ridiculed last year in TDBL for taking him in the 1st over Prado & Hill.

OPS vs AVG hurts his value from standard rankings and net SB makes him more valuable in this league than in others given last year's caught stealing #s. Will that ratio continue? Possibly, but I'm not paying as if it's a certainty.

Like I said, it's real close for me between Altuve and Kipnis

That's why I was hoping you would want Altuve more.

My pick situation is terrible in RW3TR.

Would have love to have gotten a pick plus Kipnis for Altuve.

Hell, I even tried to go from Bautista to a lesser bat for a pick and was shot down

People hoarding picks in that league

I think Altuve ends up with a couple of years in the middle of his prime where he hits double digit HRs. I wouldn't be surprised if he pulls a couple 10-11 HR seasons out eventually while playing in Houston.

Altuve is a nice player

I can't advocate drafting him where he goes simply bc there are so many other players putting up premium numbers

I don't think that's a stretch at all. He's only 24 and should develop more power.
