I didn't see much point in taking RPs early in a SV+HD league. Add in that "closer" is the most volatile position and I was more than happy to wait.

The better setup men did go sooner than I was expecting, but there was/is no shortage of good RP talent available.

And of course, the value of the draft: Alex Rodriguez

All rondo jokes aside, I would have taken him at some point if no one else did.

I grabbed Betances early because of the save+hold factor, age and I don't have a dominating top-end starter.

After how much that dude burned me in HCMDL the last few years, I wasn't going to touch Cain.

I wanted to take one of those stud RPs, but if my team peak was in a few years I couldn't justify doing it early.

I'm sure your psychiatrist knows about Cain.

Plus Saves are probably the easiest stat to trade for when teams start buying/selling. The McCain strategy.

This. Missing out on the top SPs, I took what was given to me (even if it was a little too early). I didn't want to be picking at the end of the top SP run AND picking at the end of the top RP run.

I had traded my pick at 11 to move up to 4 with the very slim possibility that Mike Stanton would slip to me because of his facial fracture and the uncertainty with that.

If he didnt, I was going to go with Goldschimdt because i figured Cutch would go at 3. My 3rd option turned into Harper but then Cutch slipped. I decided i wanted to take a flier on Bryce Harper because of his age.

He ended up being the youngest player taken in the 1st four rounds, outside of Byron Buxton, Addisn Russell, or Javier Baez. None of which have came close to the MLB success Harper has had (55 HR, 351/465/816). So hopefully his career plays out more like Ken Griffey than Jason Heyward.

on a less obvious note, I liked my pick of Alex Wood in the 5th. 6'4" lefty that just made 24. In 35 career starts: 2.84 ERA, 207Ks in 212 IP. I thought he was kind of under the radar despite his production and age.

Also I know Matt Garza and Justin Masterson arent great, but for me i needed guys to fill in while Fernandez and Matt Moore rehab from Tommy John. Masterson dealt with a bad knee injury last year and lost velocity, so im hoping he returns to 2013 form where he K'd nearly 200 guys. Garza is usually steady when healty, so landing both of these guys very late was important to my team.

In hindsight, I would rather have selected Richards than Betances.

But I'm not upset about it.

with no SP/RP designation though, you can have a bunch of bullpens to help supplement IP for the week.

Chapman in RD 4

Kimbrel in Rd 5

Betances in Rd 7

then there was a run in Rd 8 wth Holland, Rosenthanl, Street (?), and Jansen

those high K guys are a nice asset.

They don't hurt your team, obviously. But vs what you could've had there and the guys you could've waited on for sv hld, I just don't like it
Different strategies though. I took zero saves or holds

That's why I ended up with terrible RP. I just had a hard time pulling the trigger on them when I needed position players and SP at the time as well.

I did feel fortunate to get Storen as late as I did.

I mean, I would have loved to have got guys like Davis or Miller. But by the time I was ready to take RP, they were long gone.

Pitching stats will be interesting...you're basically going to have to pitch every SP you have to meet the minimum...everyone's pitching bench is thin.
