re: FSBDL Regular Season Thread

Doing a little midseason preview, looking back at the best and worst picks of each round. Here goes.


1st RD

Best picks

1. Bryce Harper(LE)- taking Harper 4th wasn't the obvious pick, with Cutch, Miggy, and Kershaw on board, but one of the youngest players in MLB has paid dividends.

2. Josh Donaldson(Knat)- Even though i thought he would go a little higher, Knat got great value at 20.

3. Manny Machado(Gyno)- could be a hot streak, but the 22 yr old's line of 50/15/43 and 11 SBs puts him on the short list of MLB's best young players under 25.


Worst Picks

1. Carlos Gomez(MWG) I didnt like the choice originally at pick 17, & the 29yr old hasn't exactly set the world on fire. Just 7 SBs to go with his 5 HRs thus far.

2. Edwin Encarnaccion(TTown)- while his hard numbers are about what you expect, his OPS has taken a tumble. Could be worrisome given his age, 32.


Round 2

Best

1. Brian Dozier(rondo)- many thought he would tail off, but he leads all AL players in XBH, and leads most AL 2B in most categories.

2. Justin Upton (gyno)- many thought the move to SD would hurt his numbers, but he is a few HRs away from setting the HR mark for that park, and its only June. Still 27.

3. Buster Posey(Deebz)- best hitting C at the game, 32nd overall. On pace for 20 HR and close to 100 RBI

Worst

1. Robinson Cano(Cap Kicass)- i think we all expected more from the best hitting 2B in the game, but he has totally fallen off.

2. Gregory Polanco(goodfellas) he might steal 35 bags, but his slash line looks like a 5th OF'ers, not the 22nd overall pick.

3. Ian Desmond(OMT) Pick 33 overall. his track record shows he will hit, but his power numbers and slash are down across the board.


Round 3

Best

1. Nolan Arenado(OMT)-pick 48 overall. 49/24/68 and he is hitting on the road. 24 year old playing like a top 10 pick.

2. Max Scherzer(CQQ)- the 9th pitcher taken. nuff said

3. Votto/AGon- these veterans proving to be great value in the 3rd.

Worst

1. Starlin Castro(Boo) he's been terrible. 262/292/337

2. Christian Yellich(Cwill) a guy with a supposed good hit tool who isnt hitting. The park grants him no mercy in the power department.


Round 4

Best

1. Todd Frazier(Boo) leads the MLB in total bases, and has been arguably best power hitter in baseballl thus far.

2. Joc Pederson(CQQ) might hit 40 HRs as a rookie.

3. Eric Hosmer(rolldat) looks like the 25 year old has finally found his grove.

Worst

1. Nick Castellanos(cwill) only 23, but was once lauded for his hitting (618 OPS)

2. josh harrison(deebz) i guess his pos eligibility saves him, but he clearly isnt who we thought he was.

3. Matt Kemp(redd) looks like the indifferent player the Dodgers had a few years ago that struggled mightily.

Round 5

Best

1. Gerrit Cole(Rondo) 15 pitchers off the board ahead of Cole. Gulp.

2. Dee Gordon(clams) the guy we thought Billy Hamilton would be.

3. Carlos Correa(boo) i dont think anyone expected him up this early.

4. jacob de Grom(dj30) 2.15 ERA with 9ks per 9.

5. kolten wong(cwill) showing speed and power for the frontrunning cards.

6. zach greinke(gyno) nice value here. leads NL in ERA.

Worst

1. Julio Teheran(cap kic) his 4.94 ERA keeps papz up at night.

2. Ian Kinsler(swam) as paula cole once sang, "where has all the power gone". 2 HRs thus far. The baby faced Kinsler is also 33.
